Luo Wei sat on the sofa, engrossed in a parenting book in her hands, with a few other books on prenatal education scattered on the coffee table.
As a first-time mother, Luo Wei wanted to put in the effort to prepare for the arrival of her child. Her feelings were a mix of excitement and worry, concerned that she might not do well enough.
"Ring ring—"
The phone, tucked away in the corner of the sofa, began to ring. Luo Wei arched her back, fumbling for a moment before finding the phone.
It was a call from Chi’s mother. Luo Wei pressed the answer button.
Luo Wei smiled as she spoke, "Auntie Chi, how have you been recently?"
Hearing this, a kind laugh came from the other end, "Weiwei, Auntie is doing well. It's been a while since I last saw you. Now that you're pregnant, you need to rest more, okay?"
Chi’s mother gently reminded her.
Luo Wei’s grip on the phone tightened slightly, and she replied with a light laugh, "Auntie Chi, I'm doing great. I'll come visit you next time."
"Mm." Chi’s mother hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Weiwei, Auntie has some free time lately. Last time we planned to meet, but you were busy. How about we meet this Saturday, if you're available?"
Luo Wei paused for a moment before speaking, "Auntie Chi, if it's just to see you, I'd be happy to. But if it's to meet someone else, I don't think it's necessary."
"Sigh." A sigh came from the other end, and Chi’s mother said with a hint of sadness, "Weiwei, our Chi family owes you an apology..."
"Auntie Chi, please don't say that. The Chi family hasn’t wronged me," Luo Wei quickly explained.
Chi’s mother opened up and began to speak earnestly, "Honestly, when you refused me before, I should have let it go. But Auntie hopes you can meet with Chi Yu and have a clear conversation, so that he can finally let go and not keep clinging to the past. Auntie is only thinking of what's best for both of you."
A trace of sorrow flashed across Luo Wei’s face. She hated Chi Yu, but she liked Chi’s mother.
After a while, Luo Wei exhaled, "Auntie Chi, let’s meet at Leisure Time Café this Saturday at 2 PM."
The tone on the other end instantly lightened, filled with joy, "Okay, Weiwei, thank you."
After exchanging a few more words, Luo Wei ended the call and looked up to see Mo Huai coming down from the study on the second floor.
"Finished with work?" Luo Wei shook off her earlier sadness and forced a smile.
"Mm," the man responded, sitting down beside her and pulling her into his arms. The pleasant scent of the man filled her senses.
Luo Wei lay softly in his embrace, idly playing with his collar.
"Who called just now?" Mo Huai asked in a rich, deep voice, looking down at her.
"Ah—um... it was Auntie Chi." Luo Wei thought for a few seconds before answering truthfully.
"Oh? What did she want?" Mo Huai raised an eyebrow, sounding intrigued.
"Auntie Chi invited me to meet this Saturday." Luo Wei looked up at him, her voice growing softer, "She wants me to have a talk with Chi Yu, so..."
Luo Wei couldn't help but glance at him. His handsome, chiseled features remained calm and composed.
After a long pause, the man’s cool, deep voice replied, "Mm, it’s important to make things clear."
Luo Wei frowned slightly, sneaking a look at him, "You... won’t be angry, right?"
He chuckled softly, revealing a set of straight white teeth, "Why would I be angry?"
Mo Huai’s gaze bore into her, almost godlike.
"It’s just... I’m meeting with my ex-fiancé. Are you really not upset?" Luo Wei stammered.
"Not at all." Mo Huai’s tone was light, and then he added, "I’ll go with you."
"You'll go with me?" Luo Wei’s eyes widened in surprise, "Are you sure you want to come with me?"
Mo Huai nodded, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "Of course."
Only then did Luo Wei realize why he wasn’t jealous or angry—he had already made up his mind.
Luo Wei absentmindedly nodded her head, while Mo Huai gently patted the top of her head, his voice warm, "You’ve been reading for two hours now. It's time for a break."
Luo Wei pouted, closed the book in her hands, and stretched her arms lazily.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Chi’s mother informed Chi Yu that Luo Wei had agreed to meet. Chi Yu was as happy as a child.
She didn’t have no feelings for him. How could someone forget a person they had liked for over ten years?
Chi Yu sat on the sofa in his room, staring at a gift Luo Wei had given him, lost in thought.
A bitter smile crept onto Chi Yu’s face. Why hadn’t he understood her feelings back then? Now, all he wanted was for her to divorce and leave that man. He wouldn’t hold her past actions against her.
As long as she came back and still liked him, that would be enough. Chi Yu was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice Chi Ye standing at the door.
"What’s wrong? Reminiscing about the past?" Chi Ye stepped into the room, his tone mocking.
Chi Yu snapped out of his thoughts, glanced at him, and replied coldly, "When did you come back? Mom and Dad were really worried about you during those days you ran away."
Chi Ye sat down on a single-seater sofa, crossing his legs, and said coolly, "Not long ago. Do you know where I was staying?"
Chi Yu ignored him, walking to his desk to open his computer and get back to work.
Seeing that Chi Yu was ignoring him, Chi Ye’s temper flared. He sneered, "Brother, I’m talking to you."
"Oh." Chi Yu responded indifferently, feigning interest.
Chi Ye, annoyed, flashed a hint of anger on his face, "I was staying at Weiwei’s house. Weiwei and her husband are so in love. Their relationship is truly enviable."
Chi Ye glanced at Chi Yu, noticing his darkening expression. He smiled and continued to taunt, "Have you heard the famous line from Leslie Cheung's 'A Chinese Ghost Story'?"
Chi Yu remained silent.
Chi Ye recited with dramatic flair, "Let me recite it for you. Listen carefully."
"'As I look up at the moon, I envy the lovebirds, not the gods,'" Chi Ye passionately quoted, a smile spreading across his face.
Seeing Chi Yu’s silence, Chi Ye grew anxious. He had finally found an opportunity to take revenge for Weiwei, to show Chi Yu just how happy Weiwei was.
"Brother, say something." Chi Ye added fuel to the fire, "Brother, I took a lot of pictures of Weiwei and her husband’s loving interactions. Let me show you."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chi Ye pulled out his phone from his pocket, ready to open the photo album.
In an instant, Chi Yu stood up abruptly, like a storm brewing, and dragged Chi Ye off the sofa.
Chi Yu’s forehead veins popped, and his eyes were filled with rage as he shouted, "Get out."
"Bang—"
Chi Ye was shoved out the door, which slammed shut with a heavy thud.
Chi Ye stood outside the door, silent for a few seconds, then shrugged nonchalantly and muttered, "Someone just got dumped, serves them right!"
Inside the room, Chi Yu’s eyes were hollow. He let out a cold snort, his steps unsteady as he made his way to the wardrobe.
He grabbed a robe at random and headed to the bathroom, feeling extremely irritated. That brat Chi Ye really knew how to get under his skin.
Chi Yu’s anger towards Chi Ye surged, and he cursed inwardly, thinking that if Chi Ye kept speaking so rudely, he would have no choice but to retaliate as an older brother.
