"Xiao... Xiao Ye." Su Yuxin's lips were pale as she hesitantly called out.

Chi Ye stood outside the door, his deep gaze fixed straight on her face, his expression calm and composed.

Su Yuxin stepped aside, and Chi Ye walked in, frowning slightly. "Why did you suddenly get a fever?" His words were few but carried a subtle note of concern as he stepped closer.

She could clearly feel his steady breathing and the faint scent of a man. Su Yuxin felt dizzy, her legs growing weak from standing too long. She tugged at her lips. "I'm fine. How did you know I had a fever?" Su Yuxin deflected, asking him in return. Chi Ye squinted his eyes, his gaze uncertain. After a moment, he finally spoke, "Sister Weiwei told me."

Su Yuxin paused, biting her lip, silently cursing. Why did Weiwei tell him? Now the situation was awkward; she wished she could crawl into a hole.

"Oh." Su Yuxin responded softly, forcing a faint smile. "I'm feeling much better now. It's getting late, so you should head back." If he didn't leave soon, Gao Zhenni might misunderstand. He already had a girlfriend, so what was he doing staying in the same room with her?

She didn’t dare voice the last thought.

Chi Ye glanced at her deeply, ignoring her words, and shifted the topic. "Have you taken any medicine?"

Su Yuxin was startled. She thought about it—she had just woken up and hadn’t had the chance to take any before he arrived. She could only answer honestly, "No."

Gurgle—

Her stomach suddenly growled, and Su Yuxin lowered her head in embarrassment, her toes digging into the floor as three lines of sweat appeared on her forehead.

"You should eat something before taking medicine. Wait here." Chi Ye said calmly, his face softening a bit, less stern than before.

She opened her mouth wide in surprise. Was he going to the kitchen to cook something for her? Images of a male lead in a drama lovingly cooking congee or noodles for the female lead spun through her mind, the tall figure busy in the kitchen—how romantic.

After saying that, Chi Ye didn’t head to the kitchen but turned around and left.

Before she could fully react, Chi Ye had already disappeared from view. Su Yuxin weakly slumped onto the sofa, wondering to herself, Did he go home? Or what?

Ten minutes later, Chi Ye returned to the apartment, holding a takeout bag. Judging from the packaging, it was a soft, sticky congee.

"Drink the congee before taking the medicine," Chi Ye said in his usual calm tone, without a hint of fluctuation.

"Mm." Su Yuxin was surprised at how quickly he had returned. Upon closer inspection, she saw a fine layer of sweat on his forehead, and the wind had slightly tousled his hair.

Su Yuxin held the bowl of congee in her hands and savored it. It was still steaming hot, and the fragrance filled the room. Chi Ye stood by, watching her drink it, his handsome features exuding a natural air of dominance.

After finishing the congee and taking the medicine, Su Yuxin glanced at Chi Ye and realized he wasn’t showing any intention of leaving. She shifted her gaze to the clock on the wall, which read 11:00 PM.

"Um... I feel much better after taking the medicine. It's getting late, so you should head back to rest." Chi Ye remained silent, staring at her intently.

Feeling increasingly uncomfortable under his gaze, Su Yuxin swallowed hard and said softly, "It’s not appropriate for a man and a woman to be alone in a room together. Gao Zhenni might misunderstand."

Su Yuxin directly addressed the issue. Since he was already with someone else, his caring attitude toward her was confusing.

"Gao Zhenni?" Chi Ye’s gaze turned thoughtful as he furrowed his brows. His perfect side profile looked as if it had been carved from stone.

"You’re someone else’s boyfriend. It’s not proper for you to be here late at night. Go back before Gao Zhenni misunderstands, or else her godfather might..." Su Yuxin realized she had misspoken and quickly stopped, waving her hand. "I’m tired. I need to sleep."

After a moment, Chi Ye seemed to understand, and his lips curled into a subtle smile as he walked toward her. His voice softened, "Are you jealous?"

Su Yuxin’s mind kept replaying those four words. Jealous? Impossible!

She immediately denied it, her voice resolute. "Why would I be jealous, little brother? I’m older than you by so much. We... wouldn’t have a future."

The last part, "wouldn’t have a future," was so soft it was almost inaudible, as if only she could hear it.

"I’m not dating Gao Zhenni."

"Huh?"

"I don’t like her." When Su Yuxin heard him deny his relationship with Gao Zhenni, her mood suddenly brightened, and her face became more flushed than before.

It wasn’t until later that she learned what really happened: that day, when she had seen Gao Zhenni holding onto Chi Ye so intimately on the street, it was because Gao Zhenni had sprained her ankle. Out of gentlemanly decency, Chi Ye couldn’t leave her alone and had reluctantly helped her back to the office. Gao Zhenni, of course, wasn’t going to miss the chance to take advantage of the situation, clinging to him as closely as possible, which had led to Su Yuxin’s misunderstanding.

While Su Yuxin was lost in thought, Chi Ye had quietly walked over, scooping her up into his arms and carrying her back to her room. His scent, faintly citrusy, was incredibly pleasant.

"What... what are you doing?" Su Yuxin gasped, struggling to get down.

"Sleep."

Su Yuxin was at a loss for words. Sleep? Her face turned bright red, like the burning clouds in the sky.

In a flash, she came to her senses. She couldn’t let herself fall for this. She had already made up her mind to remain single and childless, so she couldn’t change her life’s philosophy so easily.

She mustered all her strength and broke free from Chi Ye’s warm embrace, landing on the floor with a victorious smile on her delicate face.

But as fate would have it, her feet slipped, and she tumbled backward. She shut her eyes tightly, bracing herself for a harsh impact with the ground.

Chi Ye, quick as lightning, reached out to catch her, but Su Yuxin, using too much force, pulled him down with her. They crashed heavily onto the floor, with her on top and him below.

Chi Ye acted as her human cushion, and Su Yuxin slowly opened her eyes, her tense expression relaxing in relief.

Suddenly, she realized that Chi Ye’s gaze had darkened, and his hot breath tickled her nose. His breathing grew faster, and her soft chest pressed tightly against his, making her heart race.

Before Su Yuxin could react, the back of her head was suddenly held tight, and their lips naturally met.

Every drop of blood in Chi Ye’s veins screamed with impulse as he finally gave in to the urge to kiss her passionately. At this moment, he could no longer hold back.

Su Yuxin’s mind went blank, feeling as though she were floating on a cloud, weightless. Chi Ye’s kiss was clumsy, but his movements were exceedingly gentle.

She tried to break free, but Chi Ye held her tightly, raining delicate kisses down her face—from her forehead to the tip of her nose, and finally back to her soft, sweet lips.

They were entwined, like two kissing fish, as if they intended to kiss until the end of time.
