The manager sighed softly and then spilled everything, “I went to see her before. I told her about your current situation, that when you signed the contract with Director Zhang, you agreed that dating would result in a breach of contract penalty of one billion yuan, and you’d also lose this huge opportunity to blow up in popularity.”

Fu Chen's face turned ashen, and his gaze became frighteningly sinister. The atmosphere around him grew heavy.

The manager continued, “I only asked her to stay away from you temporarily, just until you finished filming in a few months. It wouldn’t be too late to go public with your relationship then. I didn’t expect that she, being so innocent, would break up with you outright. I didn’t mean for this to happen…”

Her voice grew lower, not daring to meet his gaze. She didn’t need to guess—Fu Chen probably wanted to tear her to pieces right now.

Fu Chen let out a cold laugh, as if struck by lightning, standing frozen in place.

The manager barely dared to breathe and cautiously glanced at him. “Are you... okay?”

A corner of Fu Chen's mouth lifted, and his previously stormy face suddenly cleared, like the sky after rain. “So that’s what happened. From now on, stop meddling in my affairs.”

His sharp gaze swept over the manager, who shuddered and stammered, “I... I won’t anymore.”

In truth, the manager felt deeply guilty. Fu Chen came from a wealthy family, one billion was nothing to him. He had long since attained fame, growing up amid praise. How could he care about such things?

She had seen it long ago—Fu Chen loved Gu Chuyi like she was his life. A single word from her could make him happy or sad all day long.

“Where are you going?”

The manager shouted after him as Fu Chen turned to leave. Smiling, he replied, “To find her.”

He paused and added, “Remember to lock up.” With that, he disappeared from her sight.

The manager shook her head but was secretly relieved. Ah, this damned thing called love!

——

Gu Chuyi returned to work right after her vacation. Today’s workload was light, so she got off early. She grabbed the coat draped over her chair and walked out of the office.

As she stepped out of the building, she looked up at the sky. The sun hadn't set yet, and the warm sunlight bathed her face, making her smile softly.

Suddenly, a luxury car stopped in front of her. Gu Chuyi frowned, sneaking a glance at the person inside. In the next moment, the window slowly rolled down, and she froze.

Her mouth hung open, full of panic. This was the first time she had seen Fu Chen since she broke up with him one-sidedly. Her heart trembled, and it was as if her voice had failed her; she couldn’t utter a single word.

Fu Chen gracefully took off his sunglasses and got out of the car, striding toward her with his long legs.

Gu Chuyi was momentarily stunned, watching him approach. Her breathing quickened, and panic filled her eyes.

“What are you doing here?”

Her voice came out cold, and the moment she recalled how he had blocked her on all social media, her temper flared for no reason.

Fu Chen remained silent, simply staring at her, which made Gu Chuyi even more uneasy.

“If you're not here for me, then I’ll be going.”

As soon as she turned to leave, she suddenly felt an arm tighten around her waist, pulling her unexpectedly into his embrace.

His scent mixed with the fragrance of oranges washed over her, their bodies pressed together in a highly suggestive pose.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed some colleagues walking out of the building. Her face instantly turned pale, and she hissed in a low voice, “Fu Chen, what are you doing? My coworkers are watching!”

Fu Chen chuckled lightly, flashing a devilish, roguish smile. Gu Chuyi was furious—had he lost his mind?

Weren’t they broken up? Was he here to make up or to mess with her?

One of her coworkers approached with a teasing smile, eyes twinkling with amusement. “Wow, boyfriend picking you up after work, huh?” She covered her mouth and giggled as she left.

Gu Chuyi was embarrassed, forcing a smile that was more like a grimace as she quickly denied it. “No, no, it’s not like that.”

Her coworker clicked her tongue and grinned meaningfully, leaving behind a parting remark. “I get it, I get it.”

Get what?

Gu Chuyi frowned. What do you get? It took her a while to realize the misunderstanding, and she sighed to the heavens. No, no, we’re totally innocent. Even if we weren’t before, we’re absolutely clean now!

As her colleague walked away, Gu Chuyi turned back to glare fiercely at the man, gritting her teeth. “What are you laughing at? Are you proud that my coworker misunderstood us?”

Fu Chen cleared his throat, his face reverting to its usual stern expression, and said seriously, “I came to see you for a reason.”

“What reason?”

“I’ll tell you in the car.”

Gu Chuyi’s face filled with disdain as she firmly refused. “Why should I listen to you?”

Fu Chen smiled faintly, a harmless expression that made Gu Chuyi’s hair stand on end. Before she could react, he scooped her up into his arms.

“Ah… let me go, let me go!”

Gu Chuyi struggled, but the strength difference was too great, and she couldn’t fight him off.

With a playful glint in his eyes, Fu Chen said in a teasing tone, “You can scream all you want; no one will help you.”

Gu Chuyi had a flash of inspiration and shouted, “Help me! ‘Help’ should come running!”

He swiftly shoved her into the car, locking the doors, then climbed in himself, and the car began moving forward.

Gu Chuyi glared daggers at him, her face flushed red with anger.

Though focused on driving, Fu Chen still noticed her cute, angry expression, which he stored away in his memory.

In the cramped space of the car, the atmosphere felt suffocating. Gu Chuyi stewed in her frustration.

“What do you want?”

Unable to hold back, she raised her voice. When he didn’t respond, she grew even more furious, turning to look out the window. Where was he taking her?

She shot him a glare. “Stop the car.”

“Hey, didn’t you hear me? Stop the car, or I’ll call the police!”

Seeing him remain unmoved, Gu Chuyi angrily pulled out her phone to dial 110, but before she could press a single digit, Fu Chen snatched the phone from her hands.

He calmly placed the phone in his pocket, looking completely at ease.

“You…” Gu Chuyi’s face alternated between shades of red and white, left speechless for a long moment.

Silence filled the car...

Suddenly, she shivered, a strange smile curling her lips as she coldly threatened, “If you don’t stop, I’ll jump out.”

With that, she pretended to open the door. “You think locking the door will stop me? Don’t underestimate me. I’ll smash the window and jump out!”

Though her words were bold, a hint of fear lurked inside her. She quickly hid her unease.

But Fu Chen’s response left her stunned.

“Then jump.”

It was as if he had read her mind, knowing she wouldn’t follow through. He looked at her with amused interest, his eyes flashing with anticipation.

He suddenly glanced at her, their eyes meeting. Gu Chuyi froze, sensing a heat in his gaze.

That gaze was soft, like the warmth he once showed when they were together.

Startled, she quickly averted her eyes, her heart racing inexplicably. She patted her chest, trying to calm her erratic heartbeat.

“Hmph, bastard, scoundrel,” she muttered under her breath in frustration.

“Oh? In a moment, I’ll show you what a real scoundrel is.”

His wicked grin deepened as he spoke, his words slow and deliberate.

Gu Chuyi: “…”
