Luo Wei timidly asked, "If we get divorced, no matter who the child lives with, neither of us can refuse the other visitation rights. Is that okay?"
Mo Huai scoffed, his thin lips curling slightly as his eyes flickered with an unreadable expression. "Fine, I agree."
But in his heart, Mo Huai had his own plans—he would never divorce her or let her leave.
"Then let's pinky swear. A promise that lasts a hundred years without change."
Luo Wei's face lit up with joy as she extended her slender, fair pinky finger.
Mo Huai's expression remained calm, but internally he was secretly pleased. The girl's cute demeanor stirred something within him.
"Alright," Mo Huai said, extending his long pinky finger, composed and unhurried.
"If there are no issues, you can sign now," Mo Huai said steadily, picking up a pen from the table and handing it to her.
Luo Wei took the contract and signed her name with a flourish.
Mo Huai, full of satisfaction, signed his name as well, his handwriting bold and unruly, reflecting his character.
The contract was made in two copies. Luo Wei carefully placed one copy into her bag, thinking to herself that a deposit of one hundred million would last her a lifetime. The more she thought about it, the more excited she became.
Mo Huai watched her smile sneakily to herself and suggested, "Let's go get the marriage certificate now." Glancing at his Patek Philippe watch, he added, "It's still early, and we have time."
"Now?" Luo Wei was slightly taken aback, frowning as she asked, "Isn't that too rushed? What about your parents...?"
"It's not rushed," Mo Huai replied with a slight smile.
"I'll give you the one hundred million tomorrow," Mo Huai continued to tempt her.
"Ah? Oh!"
One hundred million by tomorrow? Luo Wei suddenly felt a wave of anxiety, but the thought of such a large sum quickly calmed her nerves. The temptation was too great.
"Alright, my household registration book is still at the Luo family home, and it's not convenient for me to go back there. I'll need to get proof from the police station first," Luo Wei stated honestly.
"Okay, I'll wait for you," Mo Huai said, his voice rich and smooth, a satisfied smile tugging at his lips.
"Then let's meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau at four o'clock," Luo Wei said, feeling a small surge of excitement.
Afterward, Luo Wei left the hospital and hurried to the police station to get her household registration proof. As she walked quickly, a slight sheen of sweat appeared on her forehead.
Just as she was about to hail a taxi to the Civil Affairs Bureau, her phone rang.
Luo Wei pulled out her phone from her bag, and the screen displayed a call from Luo Qianqian. Reluctantly, Luo Wei pressed the answer button.
"Where are you right now? Why isn’t Yù brother answering my calls or replying to my WeChat messages?" Luo Qianqian started to scold her harshly.
Luo Wei massaged her temples, unable to get a word in as she listened to Luo Qianqian's tirade.
"Hey, say something!" Luo Qianqian demanded.
Luo Wei furrowed her brows, feeling frustrated. "If this is about Chi Yu, I don't want to talk about it. I'm busy right now."
"Are you really with Yù brother? Otherwise, why is he ignoring me?" Luo Qianqian asked angrily, her voice filled with jealousy.
Luo Wei didn't wait for Luo Qianqian to finish and hung up the phone, finally enjoying a moment of peace.
Sitting in the backseat of the taxi, Luo Wei reclined slightly, closing her eyes and trying to calm her mind. But just then, her phone rang again.
Luo Wei's brows twitched in irritation. What now? How was she supposed to know where Brother Yù had gone? He didn't want her anymore, so why should she care where he was?
Without looking at the caller ID, Luo Wei quickly answered, "You're so annoying! How should I know where your Yù brother is? I have nothing to do with him, and I don't like him anymore. Stop calling me!"
She vented in one breath, but the other end of the line remained silent, the air thick with tension.
"Hello?" Luo Wei whispered, testing the silence.
After a few seconds, there was still no response. Curious, Luo Wei looked at the caller ID. When she saw the name Chi Yu, her eyes widened in shock.
Before she could recover, a cold voice came through the phone. "Are you done causing trouble?"
Luo Wei chuckled dryly, her grip on the phone faltering slightly. "I'm not causing trouble."
Chi Yu had originally called to tell her to stop being stubborn and come home. He couldn’t believe she had cut ties with the Luo family after hearing it from Luo Qianqian. However, her attitude today had truly angered him. Why did his heart ache when she said she no longer liked him? Hadn't he never liked her in the first place?
Chi Yu's emotions were complicated.
"You cut ties with the Luo family? How could you do that to Aunt Zhu?" Chi Yu questioned her.
Luo Wei's emotions drained from her eyes, replaced by coldness. How could she have wronged Zhu Shulan? She had given her salary to those two women for years, even though they didn’t need the money. Yet, they still took it and emotionally manipulated her.
"This has nothing to do with you," Luo Wei replied, her voice as cold as ice.
"If you keep this up..."
Chi Yu began, but Luo Wei cut him off, taking a deep breath before blocking his number. From now on, they would have nothing to do with each other.
In the blink of an eye, the taxi stopped at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Luo Wei checked the time on her phone. It was 3:30 PM. After paying the fare, she slowly walked toward the bureau, thinking to herself, When will he arrive? We've only met twice, and I didn’t even get his phone number or WeChat.
As she approached the entrance, she saw Mo Huai pacing back and forth inside, looking anxious as if waiting for someone.
Luo Wei quickened her pace and greeted him with a smile. "Have you been waiting long?"
Hearing her voice, Mo Huai exhaled in relief, his worry that she might back out now easing. After all, the allure of money was quite strong.
Mo Huai smiled and said in a cheerful tone, "I just arrived."
Little did she know that President Mo had been waiting anxiously since 2:30 PM, feeling as restless as an ant on a hot pan.
"Shall we take our ID photos first?" Luo Wei suggested.
The two of them then took their photos and waited in line to obtain their marriage certificate. When the staff handed her the red booklet, she carefully opened it to the first page. She stared at the smiling faces in the photo, and a hint of a smile appeared in her eyes.
Luo Wei thought to herself, I don't necessarily need Chi Yu anymore. Life away from the Luo family has been even better, and tomorrow, when I receive that 100 million, I'll have the confidence to stand up to them.
Luo Wei handed the other marriage certificate to Mo Huai, her smile radiant. "Mr. Mo, this is for you."
Mo Huai took the certificate with a sense of deep satisfaction. The girl was now finally his.
"Now that I'm your lawful husband, it's only right for us to live together. You're pregnant, and it's my responsibility to take care of you. Don't you agree?" Mo Huai said with a mischievous smile.
Luo Wei blushed instantly. She hadn't considered this before getting the certificate and stammered, "Is it... possible to refuse?"
Help! She had never lived with a man before and wasn't mentally prepared at all.
"No, it's my duty to take care of the child." And you.
Mo Huai didn’t get to say the last part, thinking that it didn’t make sense for a legally married couple not to live together.
After thinking it over, Luo Wei realized that, given her pregnancy, living alone might not be practical.
She hesitantly nodded in agreement.
Only then did the tension in Mo Huai's brows gradually ease.
