Mo Huai held the phone to his ear, listening to Assistant Xu's work report. He raised an eyebrow, his tone cold and detached. "When can we finalize the acquisition contract?"
"It should be within the next few days. If Luo Shi fails to deliver on time, they'll face a ten billion yuan penalty. Luo Jianguo's only option now is to declare bankruptcy and wait for us to acquire them," Xu Kaifeng explained steadily.
"Good, do it quickly."
Mo Huai gave the order, then hung up, his gaze sharp. With the power of the Mo family, acquiring a company was a simple task. He was determined to avenge the girl and bring the Luo family to ruin.
Mo Huai stepped out of his study and walked briskly into the living room, where the girl and Aunt Wang were busy with something. The sound of the girl's laughter caught his attention, and as he approached, he saw they were making dumplings.
Luo Wei looked up and met the man's affectionate gaze, smiling softly. "How do you think I'm doing?"
She held a freshly wrapped dumpling in front of him, her eyes full of anticipation, eager to show off her work. Mo Huai glanced at the dumpling and smiled slightly. "You've done a great job, Weiwei."
"Really?" Luo Wei's eyes lit up with joy, and she chuckled.
"Yes." Mo Huai nodded.
As Aunt Wang rolled out the dough and Luo Wei wrapped the dumplings, Mo Huai found the scene remarkably harmonious.
"Are you tired?" Mo Huai asked with concern.
Luo Wei shook her head, smiling warmly as she continued working.
It was Luo Wei's first time making dumplings, and although they came out in all sorts of odd shapes, they were securely wrapped.
Aunt Wang, after finishing with the dough, joined in wrapping the dumplings as well. They had fillings of chives, corn and pork, and fennel and pork.
"Press lightly, take your time," Aunt Wang patiently instructed, demonstrating the technique for Luo Wei.
"Got it." Luo Wei followed Aunt Wang's example, wrapping the dumplings more skillfully each time.
Aunt Wang beamed with a kind smile. "You're really smart, Weiwei. Your dumplings are getting prettier with each one you make."
Luo Wei playfully stuck out her tongue at Mo Huai, and to him, she looked irresistibly adorable.
Mo Huai silently watched the girl, staying by her side without rushing or pushing.
Once the dumplings were ready, Aunt Wang carried them to the kitchen to cook. Luo Wei clapped her hands and tidied up her clothes.
Suddenly, she seemed to think of something and turned to Mo Huai with a mischievous smile. "Huaihuai, look, there's a UFO!" (T/N: From what I can tell she is just playing a little joke here. I couldn't find any other meaning in baidu but i’d appreciate any help)
She pointed out the window, her gaze intense.
Mo Huai paused, then played along by glancing outside.
Luo Wei seized the moment, dabbing flour on his brow, and burst into laughter. "Er Lang Shen, where's your divine dog?" (T/N: Xiaotian Dog is an image in ancient Chinese mythology. It is a mythical beast/magic weapon beside Erlang Shen, assisting him in hunting and charging, slaying demons and monsters. The prototype is a white short-haired fine dog)
Mo Huai chuckled lightly, watching the girl laugh so hard she could barely contain herself.
After laughing for a while, Luo Wei stopped, realizing that teasing someone might not have been so kind. She stepped forward and gently wiped the flour from Mo Huai's brow.
With a smile, she said, "You're not Er Lang Shen, you're my Huaihuai." She snuggled into his arms, pouting playfully.
At that moment, Aunt Wang emerged from the kitchen. Seeing the loving couple, she quietly retreated back into the kitchen.
"Ah—" Luo Wei suddenly let out a surprised yelp as she was scooped up into Mo Huai's arms. After a brief struggle, she gave in and lay obediently in his embrace.
"You little rascal," Mo Huai's deep voice rumbled.
He carried Luo Wei princess-style to the room, gently setting her down on a chair in the bathroom. He prepared a hot bath for her and laid out fresh clothes.
"Take your bath. Call me if you need anything," Mo Huai instructed.
"Off with you now; the Empress Dowager is about to bathe," Luo Wei teased with a playful wink.
Mo Huai smiled and left the bathroom.
After dinner, Luo Wei and Mo Huai cuddled on the couch, watching TV. To be precise, Mo Huai accompanied Luo Wei as she indulged in mindless melodramas. The more she watched, the more engrossed she became, and Mo Huai showed no sign of impatience, instead enjoying their time together.
Luo Wei's phone vibrated with a WeChat notification. She picked it up to see a message from Luo Qianqian.
Opening the chat, the message read: "Don't get too cocky. Marrying into a wealthy family isn't easy. They're just toying with you."
Luo Wei smiled helplessly, and more messages from Luo Qianqian followed: "When you're dumped, don't come crying back."
Luo Wei exited the chat without responding.
Next, she saw a message from Chi Ye. She tapped on it, and Chi Ye's message appeared: "Sister Weiwei, your husband is amazing. He's from a powerful family in Beijing, with wealth and influence. You're too kind-hearted to handle them, but if anything happens, come to me. I'll always have your back."
Luo Wei smiled softly, warmth spreading through her heart as she replied: "It's okay. He's really good to me, so don't worry."
She added a cute spinning emoji to her message.
Chi Ye replied instantly with a funny sticker of Jacky Cheung. (T/N: a singer/ actor)
Luo Wei's WeChat was flooded with unread messages.
Ever since the Mo Group’s official Weibo announcement, people she knew—and even those she didn’t—had been reaching out.
Some genuinely cared, while others offered fake kindness to curry favor.
There were even those who wanted her to introduce them to the Mo Group for job opportunities, or to ask for loans.
A former class monitor who had bullied her in school even sent a WeChat message, apologizing and asking for forgiveness, blaming it on youthful ignorance and asking Luo Wei to be the bigger person.
Luo Wei's thoughts drifted back six years. In high school, during her first crush, everyone knew she liked Chi Yu. Back then, she was insecure, sensitive, and melancholic.
The class monitor and Luo Qianqian mocked her, calling her a toad lusting after a swan, unworthy of someone like Chi Yu.
The class monitor loudly declared to the entire class, "Luo Wei is a country bumpkin, a toad lusting after a swan. She actually likes our school's male god, Chi Yu."
At the time, Luo Wei sat at her desk, her head hung low, hands covering her ears, wishing she could disappear.
Her pride was strong, and she often cried silently under her covers.
When she got home, she had to endure Luo Qianqian's ridicule and mockery.
Zhu Shulan was indifferent to it all. No matter what the argument was about, she was always the one who had to apologize first.
Zhu Shulan’s reasoning was always the same: as the younger sister, she should yield to her elder sister and not quarrel.
The world is like that—when you have no power or status, people look down on you. But once you have power and influence, everyone flocks to you, seeking your favor.
Luo Wei snapped back to the present, letting out a small sigh.
"What's wrong?" Mo Huai asked, glancing down at the girl in his arms with a gentle tone.
Luo Wei put away her phone and smiled lightly. "Nothing, just some spam messages. Not worth paying attention to."
Mo Huai tightened his embrace around her. Luo Wei, in turn, wrapped her arms around him, so close that their breaths mingled. She inhaled the sandalwood scent on him, savoring the tranquil moment.
Luo Wei wished time would freeze right then, that they could hold each other forever, free from worries, just the two of them entwined together.
A smile tugged at Mo Huai's lips as he lowered his head to kiss the corner of her mouth. Luo Wei’s lips curled into a sweet smile in response.
