As Luo Wei's belly grew larger, she mysteriously weighed three pounds less than before. Aunt Wang had to rack her brain to prepare a variety of delicious foods for her, and under Mo Huai's "supervision," Luo Wei ate until her stomach was full every day.
With a kind smile on her face, Aunt Wang came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl. "Weiwei, I've made some bird's nest soup for you. Hurry and eat it." She handed the bowl to Luo Wei with a bright smile. Luo Wei glanced at it, pouting, and mumbled, "Bird's nest soup again? I don't want to eat it; it's too greasy."
Upon hearing this, Aunt Wang pretended to be stern, "Weiwei, I have no choice. Madam Mo and Master Mo instructed me to make sure you drink it. Be good and drink it, okay?"
"Aunt Wang, how about you drink it?" Luo Wei looked at her with a sly smile.
"What nonsense! I'm just an old lady, not pregnant, so how could I eat your nutritious food? That's out of the question!" Aunt Wang exclaimed loudly.
Luo Wei glanced at the bowl of shiny bird's nest soup again and pouted. Even if it were dragon meat, she’d get tired of eating it every day.
"Come on, Weiwei, eat it before it loses its taste," Aunt Wang reminded her again.
"Okay," Luo Wei responded, defeated.
She pulled the bowl in front of her, lifted a spoon, and stirred the soup, scooping a small spoonful into her mouth.
"That's better. Tonight, I'll make something delicious for you and Young Master," Aunt Wang said with a satisfied nod, smiling broadly.
"What? Again..." Luo Wei sighed. It wasn't that she didn't like good food, but she was just tired of eating so much lately... Just as Luo Wei was eating the bird's nest soup, Aunt Wang called out to the young master. Luo Wei instinctively turned her head and saw Mo Huai walking over calmly.
Luo Wei looked at him as if he were her savior, forcing a smile. "Mo-gege, can I ask you a favor?" she asked pitifully.
"No," Mo Huai replied swiftly, not giving her any face.
"Ah..." Luo Wei paused, then added, "But I haven't even told you what it is yet! How could you refuse so quickly?"
Mo Huai’s lips curled slightly, his eyes narrowing. "Be good and listen to Aunt Wang. You're too light now, Weiwei. You need to eat more, understand?"
Luo Wei pouted, feeling dejected. "Okay, I'll try to eat more."
Mo Huai pulled out a chair next to her and sat down, a smile playing on his lips as his warm voice flowed out, "I'll feed you." He took the bowl and placed it in front of himself with swift, cold elegance.
Luo Wei blushed and hurriedly refused, awkwardly glancing at Aunt Wang, who was still standing nearby, watching them with a smile.
"No, no... I'll do it myself," Luo Wei declined, snatching the bowl back and continuing to eat a few more spoonfuls.
Mo Huai gazed at her, a soft smile on his lips, his deep eyes shimmering.
"Mr. Luo, I'm sorry, but you don't meet our company's hiring criteria. I apologize." The recruitment HR handed Luo Jianguo his resume, their eyes filled with disdain.
Luo Jianguo took the resume with a stiff expression, pursing his lips and staying silent for a long time before finally speaking. "I just want to ask, why was I rejected? It might sound funny, but I've already interviewed for over twenty jobs before coming here, and they all gave me the same response as you. Could you... tell me the reason?"
The recruitment HR sneered, shrugged, and said, "Mr. Luo, I have no comment. You were once a CEO, and now you're applying to be a driver. It's really unnecessary. There are plenty of opportunities in Yanjing."
Luo Jianguo's face turned pale, and he walked out of the interview room with his head hanging low, his spirit crushed.
Though his name wasn't particularly famous in Yanjing, it was somewhat known thanks to the Luo Group. But over the past month, despite looking for countless jobs, no company was willing to hire him. Some companies didn't even bother looking at his resume before kicking him out.
He had business and management skills, yet not even driver positions were open to him. How could he not know the reason?
He just didn’t want to admit it. Mo Huai of the Mo Group was infamous in Yanjing for being ruthless and vengeful.
He never imagined his later years would be under Mo Huai’s control, leaving him with no choice but to live in disgrace.
Luo Jianguo shoved his resume carelessly into his briefcase and took a bus to the next interview, this time for a building security guard position.
He silently prayed that he wouldn't be turned away again as he boarded the bus.
Luo Qianqian wore a white jacket on top, a black miniskirt on the bottom, and ten-centimeter stilettos. She took out her keys from her bag, quickly opened the door, and stepped inside. As soon as she entered the living room, she saw Zhu Shulan sitting upright with a serious expression.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Luo Qianqian asked hesitantly.
Zhu Shulan scolded loudly, "Where have you been these past few days? You didn't answer my calls, and you didn't reply to my WeChat messages. Do you know how worried I was?"
"Mom, I..." Faced with this barrage of questions, Luo Qianqian was at a loss for words.
She took out her phone from her bag and realized it had been off. She had been having too much fun with her friends and completely forgot about her family.
Zhu Shulan stepped forward, frowning. "Where have you been these past few days? Why do you look so pale, and why are your dark circles so heavy?" she asked, scrutinizing her closely.
Luo Qianqian quickly composed herself, adopting a softer tone. "Mom, I've been attending a closed training course on beauty care. I've been really busy, so I didn't return your calls."
Zhu Shulan snorted, unwilling to let it go. "What kind of training course? Why haven't I been able to contact them? Who's your teacher? I want to meet her."
Luo Qianqian mentally rolled her eyes, feeling like she was about to explode. She clenched her fists.
She had had enough. When the Luo family hadn't gone bankrupt, buttering up to Zhu Shulan meant getting some benefits, but now that they had nothing, Luo Qianqian didn’t see the need to pretend anymore.
"Why do you need to know what I do?" Luo Qianqian retorted coldly.
Zhu Shulan was stunned, unable to recover for a long time as she stared at Luo Qianqian. "What... what did you just say?"
"I said you're too controlling," Luo Qianqian responded bluntly, then walked over to the sofa and sat down, leisurely crossing her legs.
"I'm your mother, and you’re speaking to me like this? You used to be so obedient. Who corrupted you? Was it someone from the beauty salon?"
Luo Qianqian sneered and looked up. "You should take care of yourself. Our family is about to fall apart."
Zhu Shulan’s body shook, her face turning green and white as her lips trembled, unable to say a word.
Luo Qianqian stood up, cast a cold glance at Zhu Shulan, her eyes filled with disdain, and walked back to her room, slamming the door shut.
Zhu Shulan was left alone, fuming at the empty air.
