Autumn wind, like a young girl, dressed in gold, steps lightly and quietly arrives in the world.
Luo Wei was curled up on the sofa, knitting baby shoes. With three months left until her due date, she wanted to prepare more clothes for the baby.
Suddenly, she felt a blanket being draped over her shoulders, and the warmth of a man’s hand touched her skin.
She turned her head, and the man softly reminded her, "It's getting cold, be careful not to catch a chill." Luo Wei playfully stuck out her tongue, wrapped the blanket tighter around herself, and said, "Got it."
Mo Huai then walked around the sofa and sat down beside her. The shoes in Luo Wei's hands were already taking shape, and the thought of making clothes for her baby made her extremely happy.
While Luo Wei was busy with her knitting, the man quietly accompanied her, without a trace of impatience. The scene was incredibly warm and beautiful.
After a while, Luo Wei looked up and softly said, "I'm thirsty."
"Hmm." He responded and immediately went to the kitchen to pour a glass of mint lemon water, bringing it to her lips.
Luo Wei took a small sip, and a smile immediately spread across her face. "Thank you."
The man lovingly patted her on the head, his deep gaze so tender it seemed like water could be wrung from it, making her feel all warm inside.
After a while, Mo Huai walked to the balcony and picked up his phone, pressing the dial button.
A lazy voice answered, sounding as though it hadn’t fully woken up, "What’s up, brother?"
Mo Huai raised an eyebrow, seemingly asking, "Still not awake?"
Gu Xiu clicked his tongue and sat up in bed, leaning against the headboard. "Big brother, do you think I'm like you? I pulled an all-nighter doing surgery last night, and I finally get a chance to sleep in, but you just had to wake me up with a call."
Gu Xiu grumbled, secretly regretting not turning off his phone or blocking Mo Huai earlier.
"Oh," Mo Huai casually replied, then said, "I need you to do something for me."
Gu Xiu pursed his lips, thinking to himself that if Mo Huai called for no reason, it would indeed be surprising. Resigned, Gu Xiu raised his voice, "What is it?"
"Luo Wei’s birthday is next week. I’ve found a villa I like, and I need you to handle the payment and paperwork."
Gu Xiu’s mouth twitched instinctively. Sure enough, in Mo Huai’s eyes, he was just an errand boy.
"Where's the villa? A birthday gift is a whole villa?" Gu Xiu couldn’t help but admire Mo Huai’s generosity and asked curiously.
"Yeah, at Bosch Manors."
"Bosch Manors? A villa there costs up to 100 million yuan!" Gu Xiu shook his head, his mouth gaping open. He thought to himself, being rich is truly impressive.
Mo Huai gave a few more instructions and then hung up the phone, returning to the guest room.
Luo Wei still had the yarn in her hands, but she had already fallen asleep on the sofa. The sunlight streamed in from outside, shining on her little face, her skin fair and translucent like a delicate egg.
Mo Huai gently walked over to her, bent down, and carefully picked her up. The girl murmured, licked her lips, and snuggled back into his chest.
Mo Huai’s lips curled into a smile, and a look of deep affection spread across his face.
At the Luo Family.
Luo Jianguo had just come home from work and grabbed some takeout on his way back. He sat at the dining table, eating.
He picked up his phone from the side, opened the contact list, and dialed Zhu Shulan's number.
He brought the phone to his ear, but the automated message came through once again: “The number you are dialing is currently on another call. Please try again later…”
There was no doubt—Zhu Shulan had blocked him. Luo Jianguo’s face darkened.
Looking despondent, he hung up the phone and opened Zhu Shulan’s WeChat chat box, typing a message.
[Honey, I know I was wrong. I don’t agree with the divorce. Ever since you left, I’ve been living in a daze. I’m miserable. Please, can you answer my call?]
As soon as he pressed send, a notification popped up: Message not sent. A red dot appeared.
“Damn it!” Luo Jianguo slammed his phone on the table in anger, veins popping out on his forehead as he clenched his fists tightly.
Just then, the door suddenly opened, and Luo Qianqian walked in.
Luo Qianqian glanced at him and called out, "Dad." Luo Jianguo snapped back to reality, looked up, and sternly asked, "Where have you been? You haven’t come home for days."
"Out having fun," Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes, responding lazily.
"Having fun? With whom? Why are you dressed so gaudily, so provocatively?"
Luo Qianqian's face grew darker, irritation building up inside her. She was an adult, and her father, who could only manage to be a security guard, had no business telling her where she could or couldn’t go.
"Dad, can you stop nagging me?" Luo Qianqian retorted, dropping any pretense of politeness as she looked down at him.
Luo Jianguo couldn’t save face and suddenly jumped up. "What did you say? If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even be alive right now! You ungrateful child, I—"
Luo Jianguo’s chest heaved violently, too upset to form coherent words.
Luo Qianqian sneered, "Dad, give it a rest. If you really cared about me, how did you end up as a security guard? You’re not the Luo boss from back in the day. How are you supposed to give me a worry-free life?"
Luo Jianguo’s head pounded with rage, leaving him speechless as he held his forehead.
Luo Qianqian thought for a moment before saying, "Dad, my birthday is next week."
Luo Jianguo looked up at her, and Luo Qianqian plopped down on the sofa. "I’ve always had birthday parties, and I want to have one this year too. Ever since the Luo family went bankrupt, my classmates and friends have distanced themselves from me. I want to use this birthday party to mend my relationships with them and bury the hatchet."
"You must be out of your mind." Luo Jianguo sounded as if he had heard a joke. Now he was only making a few thousand yuan a month. Where would he get the money for her to squander?
"Hmph, you are too poor , don’t you have any savings at all?" Luo Qianqian sneered harshly.
"You... you really are going to drive me to my grave," Luo Jianguo muttered through gritted teeth, shouting into the air.
Luo Qianqian shot him a disdainful look, stood up, and muttered under her breath, "Stupid poor man." She stepped past him, went back to her room, and slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Luo Qianqian threw her bag aside carelessly and picked up her phone to send a WeChat message.
[Darling, my birthday is next week on the 8th. Can you spend it with me?]
After sending the message, Luo Qianqian stared at the screen intently, eagerly waiting for a reply.
Ten minutes passed, and thinking that he might be busy, she was about to go take a shower when her phone suddenly chimed with a WeChat notification.
Excitedly, she grabbed her phone, a bright smile spreading across her face.
[Of course, I have to be with you on your birthday, little temptress.]
Grinning ear to ear, Luo Qianqian quickly replied.
[Darling, I love you the most.] She added a kiss emoji.
A few seconds later, he replied.
[My wife is going on a trip, so we can spend a whole week together.] He added a sly smile emoji.
[That's great, that old hag should’ve divorced you ages ago. You better prepare a surprise gift for my birthday, hehe.]
[That old hag can't compare to you. Don't worry, there will be plenty of gifts for you on your birthday. We haven't... in a while...] He sent a lecherous grin.
[Got it, see you then.]
Even though Luo Qianqian spoke sweetly, she was only saying what she had to in order to enjoy a life of luxury. She hated her current situation but felt she had no choice. She despised the idea of suffering and was unwilling to endure any hardship. She had been raised as a pampered, wealthy young lady, accustomed to a life of indulgence, and she utterly scorned the lifestyle of the poor.
