Luo Wei looked in the direction of the voice and saw that it was the man who had been with Luo Qianqian.
When the onlookers saw the man arrive, they instantly felt there was no drama to watch anymore and dispersed.
Gu Chuyi was momentarily stunned and hadn’t yet reacted when the man was already standing in front of her, glaring at her fiercely.
Luo Qianqian, as if seeing her savior, spoke in a weak tone, "Brother Li, she bullied me."
Luo Qianqian’s voice choked with sobs, and her pitiful appearance tugged at the man’s heart. He pointed at Gu Chuyi and questioned, "You dare bully my woman?"
Gu Chuyi, feeling a chill down her spine as she looked up at the man who was a head taller than her, stammered, "She hit me first."
The man snorted coldly, smoothing his hair, "I saw you hitting her."
Luo Qianqian, sniffing pitifully, burrowed into the man’s arms, "Brother Li, you have to stand up for me."
"Don't worry, I will stand up for you. Be good," the man said as he stroked Luo Qianqian's cheek, a lecherous smile appearing on his face.
Luo Qianqian, delighted, planted a kiss on the man's cheek.
Gu Chuyi felt nauseous and couldn't help but gag, her stomach churning. How could this be more absurd than a soap opera?
The man was instantly enraged and raised his hand to strike her.
Luo Wei's voice rang out, stopping him as she stepped in front of the three of them, "Are you really going to hit a woman?"
Only then did the man notice her, casting a disdainful glance her way. His gaze swept over her stomach, "Since you’re pregnant, you should stay out of other people's business."
"Sir, you don’t know the situation and are jumping to conclusions. We all value reason, and this is a civilized society," Luo Wei said righteously, hoping the man would see reason.
The man sneered, his voice coarse, "Do you even know who I am?"
Luo Wei gave a polite smile, "I'm all ears."
"You don't even know who I am? Country bumpkin," the man sneered.
Gu Chuyi instantly deflated like a punctured balloon. She knew she couldn't outmatch the man; it was like comparing an ox to an ant.
"You apologize and compensate for the mental distress," the man demanded loudly, pointing at Gu Chuyi.
Gu Chuyi stubbornly lifted her head, her lips trembling, "Why? She hit me too."
Bitterness welled up in Gu Chuyi's heart as she thought to herself, If only Fu Chen would show up right now, not meek and submissive like before.
Stop, why am I suddenly thinking about Fu Chen? Gu Chuyi was puzzled, shaking her head to clear her thoughts of him.
"Why? Because you bullied my woman, and paying a million yuan isn’t too much," the man said, his voice full of authority, as if he were an evil landlord from the olden days.
"A million yuan? Why don't you just rob me?" Gu Chuyi was shocked, her mouth twitching.
"Sir, on behalf of my friend, I apologize to you, but demanding a million yuan sounds more like extortion, doesn’t it?" Luo Wei sighed, feeling helpless in dealing with unreasonable people. She hadn’t expected to encounter such trouble on her first day without Mo Huai by her side.
Luo Wei silently wished that Mo Huai would come to her rescue like a hero riding on clouds, but she decided not to call him.
"Extortion? That word isn’t in my vocabulary. Are you going to pay or not?" the man threatened, his eyes flashing with anger.
Luo Wei calmly raised her phone, "I don’t have a million yuan, so I’ll just call the police and let them handle it."
As soon as she spoke, Luo Wei started to dial 110, but the man lunged at her to snatch her phone away.
"How dare you?" the man towered over Luo Wei, who appeared fragile in comparison, like an ant easily crushed.
Luo Wei, her face flushed with anger, clutched her phone tightly, refusing to let the man take it.
Frustrated and feeling humiliated, the man finally succeeded in ripping the phone from her hand with a violent tug.
Luo Wei lost her balance due to the sudden force, stumbled backward, and fell to the ground. Her face grew paler by the second as she lay there, unmoving.
Gu Chuyi, alarmed, rushed over to check on her, her voice full of concern, "Weiwei, are you okay?"
Luo Wei kept her head down, biting her lip, saying nothing.
The man, now holding the phone, smirked victoriously. He glanced at the woman lying on the ground, assuming she was pretending to avoid paying, "Let’s see how you call the police now."
Suddenly, Luo Wei felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, a piercing agony that shot through her nerves, causing her to curl up in pain.
Gu Chuyi's face turned pale as she panicked, "Weiwei, what's wrong?" She then angrily scolded the others, "You’re disgusting! I won't let you get away with this!"
The man, noticing something was wrong with the woman on the ground, remained indifferent and unmoved.
Luo Qianqian, now anxious, tugged at the man’s sleeve, "What’s wrong with her? She’s not going to die, is she?"
"She won’t die. I’ve got you covered if anything happens," the man replied dismissively, barely glancing at her.
"If something happens to the baby she’s carrying, Mo Huai won’t let you off easily," Luo Qianqian said, her forehead beading with sweat.
"Mo...Mo Huai? She’s Mo Huai’s wife?" The man stuttered, his back stiffening as a cold sweat broke out on his palms.
"Yes," Luo Qianqian nodded.
The man suddenly collapsed to the ground in shock, realizing that the woman was none other than the famous young mistress of the Mo family in Yanjing. He had recently signed a billion-yuan contract with the Mo Corporation, which was now likely ruined.
Terrified, the man scrambled to his feet and fled in panic.
Luo Qianqian hesitated for a moment, then followed him out.
Gu Chuyi, anxiously waiting for the ambulance, her eyes reddening, apologized tearfully, "Weiwei, I'm so sorry, it's all my fault. Please, don’t let anything happen to you..."
Luo Wei's face was as pale as a sheet, devoid of color, but she managed a faint smile, "I'm... I'm fine. Don’t worry."
Gu Chuyi burst into tears, sobbing, "You still say you're fine, but your face is as pale as a ghost... I..."
Luo Wei smiled and patted her arm, reassuringly saying, "I'm feeling much better now."
Before long, the ambulance arrived and took Luo Wei to the hospital. Along the way, Gu Chuyi held her hand tightly, never letting go, while Luo Wei, exhausted both physically and mentally, fell asleep.
Only then did Gu Chuyi remember that she hadn’t notified Mo Huai yet. After a long mental preparation, she nervously dialed Mo Huai's number.
"Yes, when are you coming back?" Mo Huai's deep, textured voice came through.
There was no response, and the air seemed to freeze.
Mo Huai frowned, a trace of unease flashing across his face, and his voice turned cold, "What happened?"
Gu Chuyi sniffed, gathering her courage, and said, "Weiwei... She's at Gu Family Hospital. You should come quickly."
Mo Huai didn't wait to hear the rest, abruptly ending the call. He grabbed his keys and dashed to Gu Family Hospital, his mind in turmoil.
What should have been a four-minute drive took only two as Mo Huai sped the entire way, flooring the gas pedal. He arrived at the hospital in record time.
Following the room number Gu Chuyi had sent him, Mo Huai found his way to the hospital room.
Having rushed over, Mo Huai's hair was slightly disheveled, and his eyes flickered with a sharp intensity, his entire demeanor exuding an icy aloofness that kept others at a distance.
Gu Chuyi stood up from her chair when she saw him. "You... you're here."
Mo Huai glanced at her, then at the girl lying in the hospital bed, feeling a deep pang of pain in his heart.
"What happened?" Mo Huai's voice was cold, and the air around him seemed to drop to freezing.
