Gu Chuyi lowered her head, fidgeting with her fingers, unable to meet his gaze.

Mo Huai's eyes darkened, a hint of danger flickering within them as he stiffly uttered a single word, "Speak."

“S-sorry, it was because I had a conflict with Luo Qianqian. The man with her accidentally pushed Weiwei to the ground...” Gu Chuyi's eyes reddened as she stammered through her explanation.

A layer of coldness veiled Mo Huai's dark eyes as he walked to the bedside. But when he looked at the girl lying there, his expression softened instantly.

"My brother said it's okay, just a bit of fetal movement. She just needs some rest," Gu Chuyi wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, full of guilt.

Mo Huai remained silent. Only he knew how his heart nearly leaped out of his chest when he received Gu Chuyi's call, terrified that something had happened to the girl. On the way here, the usually composed and unflappable man found himself unable to stay calm. If the girl had suffered even the slightest harm, he would have made those responsible pay dearly.

Mo Huai’s eyes were filled with a tenderness so deep it seemed like it could spill over. He reached out and gently caressed the girl’s face.

“You’re here?”

A familiar voice broke the silence—it was Gu Xiu.

Gu Xiu, dressed in a white coat, casually spun a pen in his hand. He glanced at Gu Chuyi, who stood up straight with reddened eyes, and shook his head.

Gu Xiu walked over to Mo Huai and patted his shoulder, speaking softly, “Weiwei is fine now. You can rest easy.”

Mo Huai looked up, his brows furrowed with lingering worry. "How did this happen so suddenly?"

Gu Xiu walked to the foot of the bed, removed the nearly finished IV drip, and replaced it with a new one. After everything was set, he glanced at Mo Huai and explained gently, “Weiwei is seven months pregnant now, so this is a time when fetal movements are more frequent. It’s likely that her earlier emotional agitation caused the abdominal pain. She can be discharged once this drip is finished.”

Hearing this, Mo Huai finally felt a weight lift from his chest.

Gu Chuyi's tense expression also softened into a smile as she walked up to Gu Xiu. “Brother, is Weiwei really okay? She can be discharged soon?”

Gu Xiu knocked on her head playfully and said in a doting tone, “Yes, she’s fine. Now wipe away those tears.”

Gu Chuyi playfully stuck out her tongue, though she still felt guilty. If she hadn’t impulsively fought with Luo Qianqian, Weiwei wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital because of her.

After Gu Xiu left to check on other patients, and Gu Chuyi went to buy some food, thinking that some porridge would make Weiwei feel better when she woke up, only Luo Wei and Mo Huai remained in the room.

The IV drip had already been removed from Luo Wei’s hand. Mo Huai adjusted the blanket over her and sat by the bed, tightly holding her left hand.

Luo Wei slowly opened her eyes, blinking away the fatigue.

“Are you okay?” Mo Huai’s anxious voice broke the silence, his intense gaze fixed on her.

Luo Wei looked up at the man’s deep-set, chiseled features, her mouth dry. She tried to speak but couldn’t.

Realizing this, Mo Huai immediately poured a cup of warm water from a thermos and brought it to her lips.

After finishing the water, Luo Wei wiped her mouth with her slender fingers and furrowed her brow slightly. “How long have I been asleep?”

Mo Huai set the cup down, his deep, magnetic voice replying, “Eighteen hours.”

Luo Wei was startled and leaned back against the headboard, lowering her head. “I’m sorry for making you worry...”

Mo Huai sat beside her and gently pulled her into his arms, his hand soothingly stroking her back. “Silly girl, why are you apologizing again?”

Hearing his words, a wave of warmth surged through Luo Wei's heart. But as she recalled the incident at the mall, she suddenly felt a pang of inexplicable grievance.

Luo Wei's cheek rested against the man's chest, inhaling the scent of sandalwood and listening to his heartbeat. At that moment, her heart felt sweet.

After a moment, Mo Huai’s thin lips parted, his voice trembling slightly, “Do you know, when I got the call from Gu Chuyi, I almost lost my mind. Never leave my sight again, not even half a meter.”

After speaking, Mo Huai bent down and gently kissed her forehead.

Luo Wei placed her hand over the spot where his heart was beating, then looked up at him with a smile. “I... I’ll never dare to do that again.”

“I really made you worry. But right now, I’m so happy.” Luo Wei wrapped her arms around his waist, her eyes shimmering.

Just then, Gu Chuyi entered the room with a bowl of porridge, pausing at the door to feign a cough.

Luo Wei turned around, releasing her hold on Mo Huai’s waist. “Chuyi.”

Gu Chuyi ran over, grasping Luo Wei's hands, her voice full of emotion and tears, “Weiwei, you scared me to death! I felt so guilty! Mo Huai was ready to skin me alive...”

Luo Wei looked at Gu Chuyi and chuckled, “I’m fine now. Don’t worry.”

Gu Chuyi excitedly hugged Luo Wei, her hands flailing in the air.

Mo Huai coldly pulled Gu Chuyi away, ordering, “Be careful with the pregnant woman.”

Gu Chuyi rolled her eyes at Mo Huai and turned back to Luo Wei. “Weiwei, have some porridge first. I bought you some congee with preserved egg and lean meat.”

Luo Wei suddenly realized she was indeed hungry, having not eaten anything for eighteen hours. She rubbed her belly, thinking that even if she didn’t eat, the baby inside her needed food, so she obediently nodded.

Gu Chuyi was about to feed her, but Mo Huai took the hot porridge from the table. Gu Chuyi glared at him, silently cursing in her heart, thinking he couldn’t even let her do such a small thing like feeding porridge. With Mo Huai around, it was hard for her to atone for her mistakes. Gu Chuyi shook her head helplessly.

What followed was a scene where Gu Chuyi felt like she was being fed dog food the entire time. Frustrated, Gu Chuyi finally said, “Hey, enough already, Mo Huai, you’re too...”

She got goosebumps and quickly left the room, muttering, “I don’t want to be fed dog food anymore.”

Afterward, Su Yuxin also arrived with a fruit basket to visit. “Weiwei, how are you feeling now?”

Luo Wei smiled lightly. “Sister Yuxin, I’m much better. Is the store busy?”

Su Yuxin, peeling an apple, looked up and said, “Not busy. Xiao Qiu and Xiao Li are taking care of the store. Don’t worry about it. Right now, you just need to rest well, understand?”

Su Yuxin gently touched her hair, and Luo Wei nodded, feeling grateful as Su Yuxin had always looked after her like an elder.

“Luo Qianqian is too much. She’ll get her comeuppance sooner or later,” Su Yuxin said through gritted teeth, her movements of peeling the apple becoming a bit more forceful.

Luo Wei didn’t want to discuss Luo Qianqian. Now that she had no ties to the Luo family, she didn’t care even if she knew Zhu Shulan was her biological mother. She decided to change the subject. “Did Chuyi tell you I was hospitalized? She shouldn’t have said anything...”

Su Yuxin pushed the apple into her hand and furrowed her brow, “Hmph, if Chuyi hadn’t told me, were you planning to keep it from me? Oh, growing up and becoming so independent...”

Su Yuxin pretended to be upset, her lips pressed into a thin line.

Luo Wei panicked, thinking she was genuinely angry, and quickly explained, “Sister Yuxin, it’s not like that. I just didn’t want you to worry. I’ve been troubling you so much... I’m sorry.”

Unable to hold back a smile, Su Yuxin pointed at her nose and said, “I was just joking. Why did you take it seriously? So easy to trick.”

Luo Wei’s face lit up with a radiant smile.

When Mo Huai returned from Gu Xiu’s office and reached the door of the ward, he saw the two women inside smiling warmly and innocently. His lips involuntarily curled into a smile as well.
