Although Chi Ye has only been working for a short time, he has already become a backbone of the company, an elite in his department, and even the leadership listens to him, with his status continually rising within the organization.
“Ye Ge, congratulations! You’re the top performer again this month; that’s amazing!” Gao Zhenni said, walking over with a stack of documents in her arms, smiling brightly.
Chi Ye smiled back. “Thank you.”
After pouring his coffee, Chi Ye prepared to return to his workstation when Gao Zhenni suddenly called out to him.
“Ye Ge, have you thought about what I mentioned last time?”
Gao Zhenni lowered her head and asked shyly.
Chi Ye turned around and stopped in his tracks, his mind drifting back to a few days ago. That night, during a department dinner, everyone was having a great time, singing and drinking joyfully.
He remembered feeling quite down that evening because Su Yuxin had rejected his confession twice, causing him to unknowingly drink a bit too much. Since he couldn’t drive, Gao Zhenni had volunteered to take him home.
In the dimly lit car, it was quiet and peaceful. He slightly closed his eyes, his face a bit flushed and his mind hazy.
“Ye Ge, are you drunk?” Gao Zhenni pushed his arm, calling out to him twice.
Chi Ye frowned but didn’t respond.
Gao Zhenni sat in the driver’s seat without starting the engine, gazing blankly at the exquisitely charming man, feeling a rush of sweetness inside her. She thought, this must be the feeling between lovers.
After a while, a magnetic male voice urged, “Aren’t we leaving yet?”
Chi Ye, feeling irritated, tugged at his tie, mumbling to himself. He was dizzy and just wanted to go home and sleep.
Gao Zhenni snapped back to reality, struggling with her thoughts. After a long pause, she finally spoke, “Ye Ge, can I ask you a question?”
Her heart raced, as if she could hear the steady sound of the man’s breathing beside her. A flush suddenly rose to her cheeks.
“Mm.”
Gao Zhenni took a deep breath and said slowly, “Ye Ge, what do you think of me?”
“As a colleague, you’re quite good.” Chi Ye’s deep voice rang out as he kept his eyes tightly shut, resting his head slightly against the window.
“Colleague? What if I’m not just a colleague?”
Gao Zhenni hurriedly replied, her face filled with hope as she looked at him, trying to read his expression for an answer.
The air fell silent, leaving only the sound of their clear breaths.
After a long time, Chi Ye parted his lips, “A friend is also quite good.”
Gao Zhenni felt a rush of frustration and pressed on, “Not just a friend! I mean in a romantic sense. Don’t you have any feelings for me at all?”
Chi Ye was taken aback for a moment, then let out a light laugh, mocking, “Aren’t we friends?”
“No! I want to be your girlfriend.”
Gao Zhenni enunciated each word, feeling as anxious as an ant on a hot pan. She didn’t want to be just his friend; her goal was to become his legitimate girlfriend.
“Ah.”
Chi Ye simply replied with that one word and then fell silent again.
“Ah…” Gao Zhenni was exasperated and pushed his arm hard, “You can’t just sleep! I want an answer tonight; you can’t do this to me…”
Chi Ye remained motionless, drowsily drifting off to sleep.
Gao Zhenni was left in the car, feeling like a whirlwind. How could she be so unlucky to confess when he was drunk?
And he, was he really that foolish or just pretending to be?
Chi Ye steadied himself and recalled that he had indeed heard Gao Zhenni’s confession that night. Not knowing how to reject her, he had pretended to be asleep to brush it off.
Unexpectedly, she brought it up again now. He sighed inwardly, realizing that avoiding it was not the solution; he might as well face it directly.
After a long pause, he coldly spoke, “I’m sorry.”
“What do you mean by sorry?”
Gao Zhenni was stunned. What was this? In school, she was the campus belle; what man in the company didn’t like her? Why was Chi Ye the only one who didn’t like her?
Confused, her pride flared up. She had always been the one to reject others, but now Chi Ye had ruthlessly turned her down. Her expression darkened, anger swelling within her.

“I don’t like you.”
Chi Ye coldly rejected her, his annoyance evident. He despised women who clung to him, and his face flashed with irritation.
“You…” Gao Zhenni’s face lost color, her chest rising and falling violently, “Why? Am I not pretty? Is my figure not good? Tell me what’s not good enough, and I can change!”
Chi Ye placed one hand in his pocket and replied lightly, “You’re very pretty, but I already have someone I like.”

A dangerous glint flashed in Chi Ye’s eyes as he stepped closer, demanding, “You’d better clarify this for me, or I won’t let you off the hook.”
He articulated each word slowly, his tone laced with chill. Gao Zhenni felt her heart skip a beat but bravely replied.
“I… I have sought her out. She doesn’t like you at all. I told her to avoid you, and not only did she not refuse, she seemed very happy about it. She just wants to get rid of you; a woman like her is not worthy of you.”
Gao Zhenni unleashed a barrage of criticisms, ignoring the hidden anger in Chi Ye at that moment, like a storm was about to break.

Gao Zhenni suddenly raised her head to meet Chi Ye’s frightening gaze, panicking and quickly closing her mouth.
“If there’s a next time, I definitely won’t let you off.”
Chi Ye coldly left this sentence and strode away.
“Ye Ge, how can you treat me like this?” Gao Zhenni shouted after him, stomping her feet in frustration as she watched his departing figure.
Chi Ye’s expression was gloomy. He had no way to reciprocate Gao Zhenni’s feelings. Love could not be forced; one could not achieve happiness through coercion.
He inwardly grumbled, no wonder he was rejected twice; he was confident that with his status and looks, no girl could resist his charm.
Feeling a bit self-satisfied, Chi Ye returned to the office, grabbed his suit jacket, and walked out. Xiao B saw him and excitedly asked, “Hey, are you leaving early again?”
Xiao B shot him a disdainful glance.
Chi Ye remained unfazed and proudly replied, “You can be the top performer too.”
After speaking, he left with a cheerful stride. Xiao B shook his fist behind him, muttering, “If I’m first, you’d be unemployed. Haha…”
Upon exiting the company, Chi Ye went to the parking garage, raised his hand to glance at his watch, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.
“It’s just the right time to pick her up from work.”
