Mo Huai parked the car, and Luo Wei reluctantly got out, lifting her hands to gently touch her belly. Even though there was a layer of fabric between her and the baby, she wondered if she could feel its heartbeat.
Luo Wei slowly pushed open the car door and followed Mo Huai into the hospital building.
Meanwhile, Gu Xiu had returned to his office, now dressed in a white coat, and was studying a case file at his desk. Hearing a knock on the door, he put the file away and said, "Come in." He didn't need to guess; he knew it was Mo Huai.
Looking up, Gu Xiu saw the tall, strong man standing in front of him and teased, "Are you sick? I didn't think you could get ill."
Mo Huai stepped aside, revealing a girl standing behind him. She seemed familiar, as though he had seen her before.
Gu Xiu thought for a moment but couldn't recall, so he asked with a polite smile, "Miss, you look familiar. Have we met before?"
Luo Wei responded with a smile, "My name is Luo Wei. I'm a friend of your sister. We met at your birthday party last time."
Hearing this, Gu Xiu suddenly remembered who she was—a girl his sister had mentioned as a pitiful soul. But why was she with Mo Huai?
Curious, Gu Xiu glanced back and forth between the two, silently questioning why they were together.
Mo Huai cleared his throat. "She's pregnant."
"Oh?" Gu Xiu pretended to understand and nodded for him to continue.
"Please perform a prenatal checkup and see how the baby is doing."
"Your child?" Gu Xiu asked tentatively.
"Yes," Mo Huai admitted openly, without a hint of hesitation.
Gu Xiu continued to scrutinize Mo Huai. This guy, who always seemed composed and put together, now surprised him. He had once suspected Mo Huai's sexual orientation, thinking he had never been in a relationship, but now he even had a child. If Mo Huai's parents knew, they would be shocked.
Setting aside his curiosity, Gu Xiu turned to Luo Wei and said, "Miss Luo, please follow me."
The two of them went to the ultrasound room. Although Gu Xiu was a well-known surgeon, he knew a bit about obstetrics for simple procedures. In the examination room, it was just Luo Wei and Gu Xiu; Mo Huai waited outside.
With the nurse's help, they measured Luo Wei's blood pressure and weight. She was 11 weeks pregnant, and for the first time, she heard her baby's heartbeat, which was 130 beats per minute.
"The fetus is very healthy. You need to rest more, avoid overexertion, and don't stay up late. Take good care of yourself," Gu Xiu advised.
Luo Wei remained silent for a few seconds before softly saying, "Okay."
"But it's too late. I'm here today to have the baby aborted."
Gu Xiu froze, his hand holding the instrument pausing mid-air. He looked at Luo Wei with an unreadable expression. Had Mo Huai really brought this girl here for an abortion?
"Will it hurt a lot? Can it be done painlessly?" Luo Wei asked, her voice tinged with apprehension.
Gu Xiu was taken aback. He had always known Mo Huai as ruthless in business, but now it seemed he didn't want to take responsibility either, bringing this girl here for an abortion?
"I'll discuss it with Mo Huai before making any decisions," Gu Xiu said before leaving the room.
When Gu Xiu emerged, Mo Huai's expression was filled with concern. "How is she?"
"Sigh, I never thought you'd be this kind of person. We grew up together, and now you're just a heartless jerk," Gu Xiu chided.
Mo Huai was baffled, unsure what Gu Xiu was talking about. "I'm asking, how is she?"
"Not great. This must be her first time getting an abortion, so it's natural for her to feel bad," Gu Xiu replied, staring at Mo Huai with the look of someone who had just discovered a scoundrel.
Mo Huai's expression stiffened, and he earnestly said, "I didn't bring her here for an abortion."
At that moment, Luo Wei had finished her examination and came out of the room. Seeing both Mo Huai and Gu Xiu there, she began discussing the surgery arrangements.
"Doctor Gu, when will the procedure start? I'm in a hurry, and if I don't return soon, my friend will worry," Luo Wei said, biting her lip and lowering her voice.
Mo Huai's expression darkened, his face covered with a cold, icy layer.
Noticing Mo Huai's grim demeanor, Gu Xiu suddenly realized that Mo Huai hadn't brought her here for an abortion. The girl had misunderstood.
Sensing the tension, Gu Xiu tactfully excused himself. "I'll leave you two to talk."
After Gu Xiu left, Mo Huai took a deep breath, preparing to explain. "I didn't bring you here for an abortion," he said slowly and clearly.
Luo Wei looked confused. "Then why are we here?" She felt embarrassed, realizing she might have misunderstood him.
"I brought you here for a prenatal checkup and to have Gu Xiu prescribe some supplements for you," Mo Huai explained patiently.
Luo Wei blushed, unable to meet his gaze. "What about the baby after it's born?"
"We'll raise it together."
"Together?"
Luo Wei's ears turned even redder as she hesitantly asked, "We're not even in a normal relationship. Can we really raise the baby together?"
"Luo Wei, I won't let my child carry the label of an illegitimate child. We need to get married," Mo Huai said, his eyes intense and his tone firm.
Luo Wei stared at him in shock, unable to believe what she was hearing.
Seeing her reaction, Mo Huai pressed on. "After the baby is born, I'll give you 200 million yuan. I want a legitimate marriage and for our child to come into this world with proper status."
"200 million?" Luo Wei was stunned, her mouth agape. That amount of money was more than she could ever spend in a lifetime.
With that money, she could repay the Luo family for raising her and clear the debts. The remaining amount, invested wisely, would ensure she and Su Yuxin could live comfortably without worries.
"But..." Luo Wei hesitated, trying to analyze if there was some hidden motive.
Seeing through her thoughts, Mo Huai continued to coax her. "Don't worry. I'll sign a contract with you. I'll give you 100 million upfront."
"100 million upfront?" Luo Wei was speechless, her throat tightening. She had never seen such a large sum of money before; it seemed unreal.
Mo Huai took out his phone and dialed Xu Kaifeng. Within seconds, the call was answered.
"Draft a contract within ten minutes."
Mo Huai spent three minutes outlining the terms of the contract. After finishing, he hung up, leaving Xu Kaifeng in a daze, still trying to process what Mo Huai had said about a marriage contract and giving 200 million yuan, with 100 million paid in advance.
Fortunately, Xu Kaifeng had been smart enough to record the conversation, or he wouldn't have been able to draft the contract in just ten minutes.
Sure enough, nine minutes later, a fax arrived at Gu Xiu's office. Mo Huai printed it out and handed it to Luo Wei.
"See if there's anything you want to add."
Luo Wei took the contract and scanned it. The terms were exactly as he had promised, with no discrepancies.
"Actually, there's one thing I'd like to add," Luo Wei said.
Curious, Mo Huai nodded, ready to listen to her request. "Go ahead."
