Mo Huai then took a robe and headed to the guest room to freshen up. It was their first day living together, and he didn't want to scare the girl away with his actions. After finishing his shower, he casually draped a bathrobe over his shoulders, leaving it loosely tied. Water droplets slid down his neck and chest, where his muscles were faintly visible.

Instead of returning to the bedroom immediately, he went to the study to handle some work. As the night deepened, the moon grew dim, and the stars became sparse, casting a quiet stillness over the world. The clock on the wall read 11 PM when Mo Huai finally stopped reviewing documents, rubbing his temples with his slender fingers.

He quietly returned to the master bedroom, his footsteps silent, careful not to wake the girl sleeping on the bed. The soft, warm light from the bedside lamp highlighted her peaceful face, making her look even more captivating.

Gently, Mo Huai lifted the blanket beside her and slipped in. As he did, the girl furrowed her brows slightly, let out a soft murmur, and instinctively snuggled into his arms, drifting back into a deep sleep.

Mo Huai held her tightly, feeling a surge of happiness in his heart. He leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, the brief contact stirring his hormones. Unable to contain himself, he quickly turned over and headed back to the guest room's bathroom.

The next day.

Luo Wei slept in until 10 AM, her eyes still heavy with sleep. The other side of the bed was already empty, and the warmth had long since faded. After freshening up, she went to the living room and found breakfast laid out on the dining table—millet porridge, fried dough sticks, and soybean milk.

She noticed a sticky note and picked it up.

"Wei Wei, I went to work early. Don’t forget to eat breakfast. The password for the bank card is your birthday."

Luo Wei was incredulous when she saw a black gold card placed next to the note. She stood in silence for a few minutes before a wave of excitement washed over her. She spun around in circles, her heart bursting with joy. How did he know her birthday? He must have secretly noted it when they registered for their marriage certificate.

Thinking of this, a warm blush spread across Luo Wei’s face, and her heart rippled with tender emotions.

As she ate breakfast, her phone chimed with a WeChat notification. She picked it up and saw messages from both Chi Ye and Mo Huai, with Mo Huai's message sent at 8 AM.

"Wei Wei, don’t forget to have breakfast. This is my first time making it for you, so I hope it’s to your liking."

Luo Wei paused for a few seconds, savoring the rich aroma of the millet porridge. It was soft, smooth, and delicious. She quickly typed back on WeChat.

"It’s very much to my liking, hehe," she replied, adding a spinning fairy emoji.

At that moment, Mo Huai was instructing Xu Kaifeng about upcoming work arrangements when his phone suddenly vibrated on the table. Mo Huai stopped talking and picked up the phone with his long fingers, a look of pleasure crossing his face as he quickly replied.

"I’m glad you like it."

After replying, he didn’t put the phone down. Instead, he kept staring at it, as if waiting for her to respond.

Xu Kaifeng waited for five minutes, but President Mo was still focused on his phone. Bored, Xu began playing with a pen on the desk. After a while, he cleared his throat and gently reminded, "President Mo, is there anything else you need me to do?"

Mo Huai snapped out of his trance, his expression returning to its usual sternness. His voice was clear as he said, "No."

"Then I'll take my leave."

Xu Kaifeng left the office, closing the door behind him. Watching his boss, who seemed distracted and unlike his usual self, Xu couldn’t help but wonder if he was finally in love. Was it with the girl from the contract negotiation? She was already pregnant? Xu Kaifeng couldn’t resist letting out a few amused clicks of his tongue. President Mo really knew how to play!

Meanwhile.

Luo Wei had just replied to Mo Huai's message when Chi Ye called.

"Wei Wei Jie, where have you been? I’ve been so worried about you."

As soon as the call connected, Chi Ye’s clear voice rang out.

"How are you? The Luo family must have given you a hard time too."

Luo Wei smiled softly, her voice gentle. "I’m doing well now, don’t worry."

"That’s good to hear. Where are you staying? I went to your rental place, but the landlord said you moved out."

Chi Ye continued to press, his bond with Luo Wei like that of siblings.

Luo Wei hesitated for a few seconds, stammering, "I... I’m staying at a friend’s place now."

"Really?" Chi Ye sounded skeptical.

"Really, I’m doing fine now."

Only after hearing Luo Wei's assurance did Chi Ye finally feel at ease. "Chi Yu has also been looking for you. He deserves it for not trusting you."

At the mention of Chi Yu, Luo Wei’s eyes dimmed, and she quickly changed the subject. "Have you found a job yet?"

"Not yet. I plan to look after I finish my graduation trip."

After a few more exchanges, Luo Wei ended the call. Chi Yu was looking for her? He had been the one who insisted on breaking off the engagement, so who was he trying to fool with his newfound affection?

Shaking off those thoughts, Luo Wei contacted her creditors, paying off the 300,000 yuan debt she had incurred from her failed business venture. She instructed them not to inform Su Yuxin about it and promised them double the interest in return. The creditors happily agreed, assuring her that they would keep it a secret.

Su Yuxin was the person closest to her, and if she found out about the pregnancy, she would surely worry.

After finishing her breakfast, Luo Wei changed clothes and prepared to return to the pet shop. She had taken several days off already, and if she didn’t go back soon, Su Yuxin might start to suspect something.

When Luo Wei arrived at the shop, Su Yuxin was bathing a cat.

"Why are you back so soon? Are you feeling better?" Su Yuxin asked, putting down her work with concern.

"I’m much better now, so I decided to come back to work," Luo Wei replied, tying an apron around her neck.

Seeing the smile on Luo Wei’s face, Su Yuxin finally agreed to let her return to work.

The busy hours flew by, and before they knew it, it was 7 PM, and Luo Wei had just finished the last transaction of the day.

"Wei Wei, go home and rest early," Su Yuxin said, taking off her apron.

Luo Wei also removed her apron, washed her hands, and tidied herself up.

"Do you want to go for hotpot?" Su Yuxin suggested.

"Sure," Luo Wei agreed readily. She hadn’t had hotpot in three months, and just the thought of it made her mouth water.

Meanwhile.

At 5:30 PM, Mo Huai left work and rushed home, eager to spend more time with Luo Wei, worried that she might be bored staying at home alone. But when he opened the door, the place was empty and dark. He called out gently, "Wei Wei?"

Mo Huai called out again, but there was no response. He quickly walked to the bedroom, only to find it empty as well. Anxious, he pulled out his phone, his expression darkening, his face becoming increasingly grim. The phone line informed him that the number he dialed was turned off...

A cold, chilling aura instantly enveloped Mo Huai, making him seem unapproachable. He quickly sent several messages on WeChat.

"Where are you?"

"Reply as soon as you see this."

"I’m worried about you. Why won’t you answer?"

...

As he continued sending messages, Mo Huai kept dialing her number, hoping she would answer.
