The next day, Father Mo posted many adorable pictures of his granddaughter in the Mo family chat group, even adding an emoji that didn’t quite fit his usual demeanor.
Mother Mo replied to Father Mo: "Not bad, old man. These pictures are pretty cute. I’ve got plenty more myself!" (starry-eyed emoji)
Mother Mo then flooded the group with even more photos from the previous day, including pictures of Luo Wei and Mo Huai being lovey-dovey.
Luo Wei: ....
Mo Huai responded to Mother Mo with a thumbs-up emoji.
Luo Wei looked at her phone, smiling widely as she scrolled through the chat. Next to her, her little bundle of joy occasionally nuzzled her cheek.
Luo Wei pressed her cheek against the baby's head, breathing in the sweet, milky scent. "Sweet baby, look, they're teasing mommy again in the group."
Xiao Yueyi, as if understanding, made a soft sound and smiled sweetly.
Luo Wei picked up her phone again, her face slightly flushed like a ripe apple as she saw the group flooded with pictures of her and Mo Huai showing affection.
Mother Mo tagged Luo Wei: "Weiwei, how do you like this one? I captured the moment perfectly!" (along with a mischievous emoji)
In the photo, Mo Huai was stealing a kiss while Luo Wei wasn’t paying attention, his lips curved in a playful smirk, while Luo Wei blushed shyly.
Luo Wei replied to Mother Mo: "Mom... You could’ve just sent that one to me privately!"
Father Mo chimed in: "Haha... My daughter-in-law is so adorable, why keep it private?"
Luo Wei: mortified!
At the Chi residence.
After attending the full-month celebration, Chi Ye posted a series of nine photos on his social media. The pictures included a selfie with Xiao Yueyi and a couple’s photo of Luo Wei and Mo Huai.
Chi Yu stared coldly at the post, his fingers turning white from clenching his fists, a sharp pain shooting through his chest.
A bitter taste rose in his throat. She really didn’t want him anymore. His eyes zeroed in on Mo Huai’s hand wrapped around Luo Wei’s slender waist, the sight glaring and mocking.
Chi Yu’s eyes were wide with fury as he pressed his fingers to his temples, a wave of disappointment washing over him.
Crash—
Suddenly, Chi Yu hurled his phone against the wall, shattering it to pieces. Rage flickered in his eyes as he stormed through the room, smashing every gift Luo Wei had ever given him into oblivion.
The room was in shambles.
Chi Yu stood, fists clenched tight, his face pale with anger.
After what felt like an eternity, he gradually calmed down, his heart feeling as though it had been pierced by an arrow, the pain spreading through his entire body.
The usually stern look on his face softened with sorrow, and a single tear escaped, sliding down his cheek. He lifted a cold hand to touch it, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
They say men don't cry easily, but at that moment, Chi Yu regretted everything. If only he had cherished her more back then. If heaven gave him a second chance, he would never have called off the engagement.
"What are you doing?"
A familiar, mocking voice suddenly came from the door. Chi Yu turned his head and saw Chi Ye's tall figure standing outside the room.
Chi Yu paused, turning his head away, his voice cold. "Why are you here?"
Chi Ye shrugged, replying indifferently, "I knocked, you didn’t answer. The door was unlocked, so I let myself in."
The tension in the room grew thicker. Chi Yu wasn’t in the mood to deal with Chi Ye, giving him a sharp look before trying to close the door. But Chi Ye suddenly blocked it.
"Did you just cry?" Chi Ye teased, staring at him with cold eyes.
"Get lost," Chi Yu said bluntly, his voice icy.
"Haha, I was right. The great Chi Yu actually cried? How pathetic," Chi Ye clicked his tongue twice, shaking his head in mockery.
Chi Yu glared at him with such intensity that Chi Ye took a couple of steps back, feeling the heat of his anger. "Okay... okay, fine. I’ll leave now, happy?"
With that, Chi Ye darted out of sight.
Chi Yu slammed the door shut with a loud bang, collapsing onto the couch like a deflated balloon.
From then on, Chi Yu lived a robotic life, repeating the same routine day after day. He went to work, then came home, following his father’s orders to attend matchmaking sessions. The woman he was introduced to was a high-society heiress, a perfect match for the Chi family. Father Chi, thrilled that Chi Yu had agreed to go on the dates, was practically buzzing with excitement.
When Chi Yu returned home, Father Chi was lounging on the sofa, sipping tea leisurely. "How was your date with Lili today?"
Father Chi was secretly overjoyed. Chi Yu was almost thirty, and it was time for him to settle down and start a family. The woman was the daughter of an old business partner, someone they knew well and trusted.
"Fine," Chi Yu responded indifferently, not even bothering to lift his gaze.
Father Chi took another sip of tea, crossing his legs. Though annoyed by his son’s curt response, he didn’t press the issue. Chi Yu agreeing to go on the date was already progress. Love would grow with time.
As Chi Yu made his way upstairs, Father Chi called out to him, "Invite Lili over for dinner tomorrow."
Chi Yu responded coldly, "I have to work late tomorrow."
Father Chi jumped up, shouting, "Work late? You’re always working late! Will the Chi family go bankrupt if you leave work a little earlier?"
Chi Yu lowered his gaze, devoid of any emotion, and replied robotically, "Fine, I’ll let her know."
Hearing this, Father Chi's anger subsided, and he returned to sipping his tea.
The next evening, Chi Yu brought Lili home. She wore an elegant yellow suit and carried a designer bag, flashing a charming smile as she greeted the family, "Good evening, Uncle, Auntie, Xiao Ye."
Mother Chi and Father Chi nodded in acknowledgment, while Chi Ye, expressionless, glanced at his future sister-in-law, mentally comparing her to Luo Wei.
Compared to Weiwei, Lili didn’t hold a candle.
"Lili, how have you been? I’ve missed you," Mother Chi warmly took Lili’s hand, chatting animatedly with her.
"Thank you for asking, Auntie. I’ve been well. The weather is getting colder, so take care of yourself. I’ve asked a friend to bring some health supplements from abroad for you. I’ll bring them over tomorrow," Lili replied with a delicate smile, looking like a porcelain doll.
Chi Yu stood quietly on the side, as if he were just a bystander.
"And Xiao Ye, I recently got you an XB gaming console, the latest model. I’m sure you’ll love it. I’ll bring it over tomorrow," Lili said, turning her gaze to Chi Ye with enthusiasm.
Chi Ye's eyes widened. The XB gaming console! It was a hot new product from DiTech, not yet available in the country, and even abroad it was hard to get. After a moment of hesitation, Chi Ye couldn’t resist and sheepishly replied, "Thanks... I appreciate it."
He quickly looked away, not wanting Lili to see the excitement in his eyes. He thought to himself that Lili was a frighteningly smart woman. Ever since she started dating Chi Yu, she’d learned the Chi parents' habits better than even him.
Chi Ye still preferred women who weren’t quite so sharp!
