Mo Huai returned to the Bosch Estate, and as soon as he entered, he saw Luo Wei playing with their little daughter in the living room.

The exhaustion on his face softened into a trace of warmth. Luo Wei looked up and smiled gently, “You’re back?”

She ran over and hugged him. He had been on a business trip for five days, and she had missed him every single day. Now, as she inhaled the familiar sandalwood scent on him, she smiled, a smile that had been missing for a while.

Mo Huai held her tightly, taking in the fragrance of her hair. He thought about what had happened earlier that evening but decided against telling her. He didn’t want to cause her unnecessary worry. Releasing her, he smiled warmly. “I missed you so much.”

Luo Wei blushed and smiled, “Me too.” She pressed her head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat, as if the whole world had come to a standstill.

Mo Huai lifted her chin and kissed her soft lips with a domineering passion, his warm breath enveloping her.

Luo Wei's cheeks flushed red like the morning sky, as she enjoyed his possessive kiss.

That afternoon, Luo Wei and Mo Huai were snuggled on the sofa, enjoying a rare and peaceful weekend. Mo Huai’s parents missed their granddaughter so much that they asked the housekeeper, Wang Ma, to bring little Yueyi to stay at the old Mo family residence for a few days.

It was a rare chance for the couple to have time alone, and Luo Wei was absolutely thrilled. She clung to Mo Huai, refusing to let go, making him take care of all her needs, from food to bathroom breaks.

Mo Huai was more than willing to pamper her and fulfilled her every request.

Ring, ring—

The phone rang, but Luo Wei, engrossed in the TV show she was watching, pouted and muttered, “Honey, can you get my phone for me?”

Mo Huai pinched her cheek affectionately. “You little lazy pig.”

Luo Wei laughed awkwardly and playfully stuck out her tongue. “It’s your fault for spoiling me.”

She took the phone Mo Huai handed her, noticing that it was a landline number. She frowned and pressed the answer button.

A noisy voice came from the other end, the sound cutting in and out. “Hello, is this Miss Luo Wei?”

“Yes, it is.”

“You’re the only reachable family member of Luo Qianqian. Please come to XX Hospital immediately. Luo Qianqian was in a car accident and has passed away. The driver fled the scene. You need to come handle the paperwork and take care of her final arrangements. None of her other relatives could be contacted…”

Luo Wei’s eyes widened, and before the person on the other end could finish speaking, her hands trembled, and the phone slipped from her grasp, falling to the floor.

“What’s wrong?” Mo Huai noticed her unusual reaction and looked at her with concern.

“Go to XX Hospital.”

Soon, the car stopped at the hospital entrance. Luo Wei stumbled inside, following a nurse's guidance until she reached the morgue.

Covering her mouth in shock, Luo Wei stood frozen as Mo Huai pulled her tightly into his arms. Although she had always disliked Luo Qianqian, they were half-sisters after all. Confronted with Luo Qianqian’s sudden death, she found it hard to accept.

The police told Luo Wei that Luo Qianqian had been hit by a drunk driver on the street. With no surveillance cameras in the area, the driver fled the scene. No passersby witnessed the incident, and it wasn’t until the next day that a street cleaner discovered her, barely alive. By the time she was rushed to the hospital, it was too late.

The officer glanced at Mo Huai, knowing his powerful status in Yanjing, and didn’t dare be negligent. “Miss Luo, we’re taking this case very seriously. As soon as there’s any news, we’ll inform you right away.”

Luo Wei nodded, her face pale.

“Mr. Mo, Miss Luo, if there's nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”

After the officer left, Luo Wei stood beside Luo Qianqian’s body, feeling a mixture of emotions. Luo Qianqian’s face was covered in blood, her features distorted from the accident—it was terrifying. Luo Wei’s heart clenched painfully as she faced death for the first time. She tightly gripped Mo Huai’s hand.

“Qianqian…”

Luo Jiangguo rushed in, sobbing uncontrollably as he collapsed beside Luo Qianqian’s cold, stiff body, his face drained of all color.

“Who could have done this to my Qianqian? This can’t be real…” Luo Jiangguo refused to accept the truth, overwhelmed with grief.

Luo Wei sighed, stepping out of the morgue to handle the paperwork. Shortly after, the funeral home’s car arrived to take Luo Qianqian’s body away.

Memories of the past came flooding back. With Luo Qianqian’s death, the pain she had once caused Luo Wei also seemed to fade. Reflecting on it all, Luo Wei couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of melancholy. She now treasured her days with Mo Huai even more.

On the way back, Luo Wei leaned against the car window, her eyes dull and lifeless.

Mo Huai, sensing her sadness, felt his own mood shift with hers. He wanted to say something but decided to stay silent, sitting quietly by her side.

Meanwhile…

Zhu Shulan received a call from Luo Jiangguo. At first, she was stunned, but soon after, a smug grin appeared on her face. “Hmph, she got what she deserved. Heaven is always watching, and now karma’s come. She’s not even worth pitying.”

Luo Jiangguo was shocked, unable to believe how heartless she was. “You… you’re so cold-blooded. Qianqian called you mom for over twenty years…”

Luo Jiangguo’s heart raced with anger, his throat tightening as he struggled to speak.

Zhu Shulan laughed coldly and mocked him. “You and Luo Qianqian deserve to die. I haven’t forgotten what you both owe me. You’re disgusting. Luo Jiangguo, I’m warning you, I will get my revenge. I’ll make you wish you were dead.”

She spat her venomous words and hung up without a trace of emotion.

Luo Jiangguo’s pupils shrank, and he glanced at Luo Qianqian’s ashes on the altar. Her black-and-white photo captured her smiling face, now forever gone from his world.

“You’re too heartless.”

“Me, heartless? Hah! What about when you cheated on me while I was pregnant? What about when you swapped Weiwei and Qianqian at birth? Did you think that wasn’t heartless? You have no idea how much pain I’m in. And now, you dare lecture me? Don’t worry, karma will catch up to you. I’ll be waiting for that day.”

Zhu Shulan’s voice grew wild with fury, her anger uncontrollable as she shouted into the phone.

Luo Jiangguo collapsed onto the ground, pounding the floor in sorrow. Now middle-aged and utterly defeated, he couldn’t see any meaning left in his life.

Zhu Shulan, hearing his sobs on the other end, felt a surge of satisfaction and hung up.

“Big sis, what happened? Who was on the phone?” He Wanling asked cheerfully.

Zhu Shulan put her phone away, her eyes gleaming with pride. “Luo Qianqian is dead.”

“What?” He Wanling’s eyes widened in disbelief. “How… how did that happen?”

Zhu Shulan gave her a dismissive glance. “A car accident. The driver ran away. She got what she deserved.”

He Wanling sighed and shook her head. “Sigh, what a twist of fate.” Seeing that Zhu Shulan remained unfazed, she felt relieved. It seemed Zhu Shulan had let go of the past and was ready to start a new life.

“What are you two talking about?” Zhu Shuli walked in with large strides.

“Honey!” He Wanling's eyes lit up at the sight of her tall husband, and she ran into his arms.

Watching the couple, still as affectionate after more than twenty years of marriage, Zhu Shulan felt a pang of bitterness. The stark contrast to her own life, filled with betrayal and estrangement from her own daughter, only deepened her heartache.

Her husband’s betrayal and her own daughter’s indifference was her retribution!
