Gu Family.
Gu Xiu's parents were going on a trip to Italy, and before leaving, they specifically reminded him to take good care of his younger sister, Gu Chuyi. As the only daughter of the Gu family, she was pampered by her parents and doted on by her brother, so the responsibility weighed heavily on Gu Xiu.
For the past few days, Gu Chuyi had been on her best behavior, coming straight home after work without going out to play with her friends. She even started acting more ladylike, something that greatly pleased Gu Xiu.
At the dining table, Gu Xiu leisurely enjoyed his afternoon tea. "Any plans for the weekend?"
"No," Gu Chuyi replied without even looking up, grabbing a piece of pastry and stuffing it into her mouth.
"What about your good friends?" Gu Xiu glanced at her and chuckled softly.
"I'm staying home, not in the mood to go out."
"Well, that's fine. It's been a while since we siblings had a good chat."
Gu Chuyi picked up a magazine from the side, flipped through a few pages, and then set it down restlessly. "Bro, we've been together since we were kids, what could we possibly need to talk about?"
She pouted as Gu Xiu tapped her head playfully, teasing, "You seem preoccupied lately. Why don't you tell me what's on your mind while Mom and Dad aren't around? Maybe I can help."
Gu Chuyi hesitated for a moment before replying, "There's nothing on my mind." She thought to herself, even if there was, he wouldn't be able to help. Matters of the heart are the most confusing things in the world, and even she was lost in it.
"Really?"
Gu Chuyi nodded.
Gu Xiu elegantly took a sip of his tea. The warm sunlight streamed in through the windows, casting a soft glow on his face, giving him a refined yet distant appearance.
Suddenly, a servant entered quietly and bowed. "Young Master Fu Chen is here. He’s outside right now."
At these words, Gu Chuyi's hand trembled, spilling water everywhere. Her eyes widened in shock. "Who did you say is here?"
The servant smiled and repeated, "Young Master Fu Chen."
Gu Chuyi froze in place!
Gu Xiu frowned, puzzled. "Fu Chen? What is he doing here?"
Gu Chuyi quickly grabbed Gu Xiu's hand in panic, her voice anxious. "Brother, you have to help me. If Fu Chen asks about me, just tell him I went on a business trip to France, okay?"
"What?" Gu Xiu looked at her in confusion. "What's going on?"
"There's no time to explain. Just remember to say I went to France for work."
Gu Chuyi made a face and immediately darted upstairs to her room.
Gu Xiu’s brows furrowed, and after a moment, he turned to the servant with a smile. "Let him in."
In no time, Fu Chen stepped inside, his footsteps light. Gu Xiu raised an eyebrow, his voice teasing, "What brings you here?"
Fu Chen was dressed in a dark gray sweater, his strikingly handsome features, and sharp jawline radiating an air of noble arrogance. Casually removing his sunglasses, his deep eyes flashed with a hint of mystery. "Are you alone?"
Gu Xiu nodded nonchalantly, his mind racing. What was going on between Fu Chen and Gu Chuyi? He had to find out.
Fu Chen, with his hands in his pockets, looked around lazily, clearly hoping to see the person he’d been longing for. It had been two weeks since Gu Chuyi last responded to him. It was as if she had vanished without a trace.
Gu Xiu didn’t miss the disappointment in his eyes and smirked. "Are you looking for Chuyi?"
"Is she here?"
Fu Chen's intense gaze focused on him, clearly expecting a satisfying answer.
Gu Xiu cleared his throat, hesitating before saying, "She's not here."
A flicker of disappointment crossed Fu Chen's face, but he pressed on, "Where did she go?"
"What’s going on between you two?" Gu Xiu asked, his suspicion growing.
Fu Chen was momentarily taken aback, his deep eyes unreadable. "It’s something she should tell you herself."
Gu Xiu rolled his eyes and silently cursed his sister. Judging by Fu Chen's expression, there was definitely something going on. And when it came to a man and a woman, it was always about feelings. He’d deal with her later for lying to him.
"When is Chuyi coming back?" Fu Chen lowered his gaze, finding the situation oddly amusing. He was a superstar, and yet here he was, sacrificing his pride for love. He just wanted an explanation. Even if they were going to break up, it should be done face-to-face. What kind of cowardice was this avoidance?
He laughed bitterly.
"She’s on a business trip to France. I’m not sure when she'll be back; she didn’t say," Gu Xiu lied without hesitation, glancing upstairs where his sister was hiding. His eyes flashed with frustration.
"Alright, I see." Fu Chen's expression was somber, his voice filled with disappointment.
"I’ll head out then."
Gu Xiu was about to say something, but seeing that Fu Chen was leaving, he didn’t bother to stop him. He silently watched him leave, already planning how to confront Gu Chuyi later. There would be no leniency for her lies.
A few minutes later, Gu Chuyi, looking defeated, slowly descended the stairs and slumped into a chair.
Gu Xiu eyed her with amusement. "So, what’s going on between you and Fu Chen?"
His voice was stern.
Chuyi pouted and muttered, "It’s exactly what you think."
Gu Xiu burst out laughing. "No way, you’re really dating Fu Chen?"
"Why?"
Chuyi rolled her eyes, thinking to herself, I don’t even know why. Love just happens when you least expect it, and once it arrives, there’s no stopping it.
"Oh my god, Gu Chuyi, you’ve really outdone yourself. You kept this secret tight."
Gu Xiu prattled on, "Are you two fighting or breaking up? I just found out about your relationship, and it’s already over?"
He glanced at the downcast Chuyi, shaking his head. Then, seriously, he asked, "Do you love Fu Chen?"
She finally calmed down, and after a long pause, nodded firmly. If she didn’t love him, she wouldn’t feel this miserable now.
There were still a few months before Fu Chen finished filming. Only then could she appear in front of him again.
"If you love him, why are you avoiding him? He didn’t seem too happy when he was here. Are you sure you want to ignore him?"
Gu Xiu patted her on the shoulder, his tone filled with sincerity.
Chuyi propped her chin on her hand and scoffed, "You’re still single yourself. You’re not exactly qualified to give advice. I can handle this."
Gu Xiu glared at her, shrugging indifferently. "If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll just tell Mom and Dad."
Chuyi surrendered in an instant, clutching his arm and begging, "Brother, please don’t tell our parents!"
Crossing his arms, Gu Xiu stood back, watching her like he was waiting for the show to start.
Chuyi sighed deeply and began to tell him everything.
After listening, Gu Xiu was speechless. "That’s it? Was this really necessary? My dear sister, with Fu Chen’s wealth, a billion is nothing. If it weren’t for my own financial limitations, I’d pay it off for you."
Chuyi huffed, adamantly refusing. "No way. I don’t want Fu Chen’s career to suffer because of our relationship. I don’t want to be a stumbling block in his path."
Gu Xiu was momentarily stunned before softly saying, "Then make sure you think it through. If you need help, just let me know. I won’t let you down."
Warmth surged through Chuyi’s heart as she silently told herself that the next few months would pass quickly.
