Chi Yu's expression darkened as he stared at the glaring headline on his phone: President Mo Lavishes His Beloved Wife with a Billion-Dollar Wedding. His fingers, gripping the phone, turned white from the tension, his face clouded with anger as he fell into deep thought. A cold smile crept onto his lips, a smile so chilling it was hard to pinpoint the emotion behind it.

It felt as if his heart had split open, a sharp pain twisting within him. Just then, a soft, gentle voice broke the silence.

“Ah Yu, let’s go have a candlelit dinner together.”

Chi Yu snapped out of his reverie and turned to see Lily, dressed in a classic little black dress reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, her hair styled high in a playful yet elegant way. She looked innocent and lively.

“What’s wrong?” Chi Yu asked, furrowing his brows.

Lily leaned closer with a grin, her voice sweet and delicate, “I missed you.”

Chi Yu replied with a noncommittal hum, not willing to pursue the topic any further, his expression dark and tense.

Lily bit her lip and, without meaning to, caught a glimpse of the glaring headline on his phone. A tremor ran through her heart, and chaotic thoughts flooded her mind.

An awkward silence enveloped them. Chi Yu looked up and noticed her face had turned pale, shifting between shades of green and white. Following her gaze, he froze for a moment and quickly turned off the screen of his phone.

As Chi Yu opened his mouth to explain, Lily interrupted him, her voice as cold as frost. “Are you still unable to forget her?”

After saying that, Lily let out a bitter laugh, mocking herself. To him, she was nothing but a joke. When she first learned about his fiancĂ©e and how their engagement had been called off for reasons she didn’t understand, she believed that time would heal everything. She was convinced that through her efforts, she could make him fall in love with her again.

Chi Yu fell silent, his lips moving slightly but failing to utter a word.

Lily's eyes filled with sudden tears, the droplets slipping down her cheeks. Chi Yu stared blankly at her tear-streaked face, feeling a sharp ache in his heart.

He raised his hand, wanting to wipe away her tears, but it was abruptly slapped away. She sneered, disdain evident in her tone. “Is your silence supposed to be an acknowledgment? It’s truly laughable. What kind of man do I lack? Why do I have to like you? I must be out of my mind.”

Lily raged, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

After a pause, Chi Yu pressed his lips into a thin line, his gaze icy. “I’m sorry.”

“Sorry?” Lily retorted, her voice rising. She didn’t need his apologies; she only wanted his love. Why was he so heartless?

“So you still like Luo Wei? If you can’t forget her, why agree to be with me? You’re just a scumbag.”

Chi Yu silently endured her insults without a hint of defense. Lily grew even more furious; if he didn’t even want to explain, why was it so hard for her to accept not being with the one she loved?

“I’m sorry. I let you down. You can hit me or curse me; it’s fine. You’re a good girl, and I don’t want you to get hurt.” Chi Yu spoke slowly, guilt flooding his heart.

Lily cried quietly for a while, contemplating. He didn’t seem entirely wrong; he simply didn’t love her. Forcing something that wasn’t meant to be wouldn’t yield sweetness. How could she expect someone else's love?

After a moment, Lily composed herself and said softly, “Let’s break up. I don’t want my boyfriend to still have feelings for someone else. I’m looking for a man who only has me in his heart, and it seems you’re not that person. Thank you for taking care of me during this time.”

Chi Yu was taken aback, gazing at her silently, his eyes as deep as a bottomless pit. “Lily…”

Lily, who had been squatting on the ground, suddenly stood up, wiping her nose, forcing a smile. “You have to remember, you’re not the only man in the world. I’m so beautiful that the men pursuing me in Yanjing City would line up to the peak of Mount Everest.”

Lily held her head high, speaking proudly, her eyes shining brightly.

Chi Yu paused for a moment, his tone lifting slightly. “Thank you.”

“No need to thank me.” Lily waved her hand dismissively. “Luo Wei has found her happiness, and you shouldn’t be so stubborn. Let it go; see it clearly. A man must be able to take and let go.”

Chi Yu was stunned. Why could she, a woman, understand this while he couldn’t? There was no remedy for regret; one must lose to gain. Losing didn’t always mean something was wrong.

Lily patted his shoulder, offering a few words of comfort before walking away with grace.

Chi Yu stood there in a daze. His relationship with Lily had come and gone swiftly. He had tried his best to like her but ultimately failed.

His heart had completely closed off. After losing Luo Wei, his world was no longer perfect.

“Why did you let Sister Lily go?”

Chi Ye leaned against the door handle, hands in his pockets, wearing a curious expression.

Chi Yu snapped back to reality, lifting his gaze toward the door with a frosty glare. “How did you know?”

“Big brother.” Chi Ye rolled his eyes, shrugging. “I ran into Sister Lily when she left; she told me everything.”

“Oh.” Chi Yu replied coolly, unwilling to continue the conversation.

Chi Ye sighed dramatically, mocking him. “You really don’t know how to cherish what you have. You only understand after you lose it. It was Wei Wei before, and with how well I know you, losing Lily means you’ll definitely regret it.”

A cold glint shot from Chi Yu’s eyes, making Chi Ye pause before adding, “Brother, you should really think about it.”

With that, Chi Ye turned to leave. Chi Yu’s gaze drifted off, lost in thought.

At dinner time, the four of them sat in silence.

Chi Ye put down his chopsticks, hesitating before Chi Mother couldn’t help but ask, “Xiao Ye, what’s wrong? Do you have something to say?”

Chi Ye smiled and nodded, his eyes scanning the table. “Dad, Mom, I’ve got a girlfriend.”

“What?” Chi Mother exclaimed, her face lighting up with joy. “Xiao Ye has a girlfriend? Oh my, my dear son, you’re truly capable; no wonder I gave birth to you!”

Chi Fu was much more composed than Chi Mu as he said sternly, “Where is she from? What does she do?”

“She’s a friend of Weiwei, named Su Yuxin. She and Weiwei partnered to open a pet shop. She’s five years older than me...” Chi Ye suddenly fell silent, realizing something, and his expression tightened slightly.

Chi Yu smirked, letting out a scoff before saying, “She’s five years older than Xiaoye, abandoned by her parents since childhood, and raised by her grandmother.”

A small spark ignited in Chi Ye’s eyes as he casually grabbed a nearby dish and threw it, coldly cursing, “If you don’t speak, no one will think you’re mute, okay?”

Chi Yu nimbly dodged the attack, unfazed, and said, “I’m just speaking the truth.”

“Dad, Mom, I think Xiaoye just started working, and he’s very naive. He’s never been in a relationship before, and I’m worried he might be deceived,” Chi Yu said seriously, maintaining a calm demeanor.

Chi Ye couldn’t sit still, glaring fiercely at Chi Yu. Was he dragging others down just because his own romantic life was going poorly? That was truly heartless.

“You deserve it; Weiwei doesn’t want you anymore, and now Lily has left you too. Get ready to live alone for the rest of your life,” Chi Ye said, reveling in his misfortune.

“Shut up; I can choose my own feelings. It’s none of your business.”

Chi Fu watched the two bickering and called out, “Enough arguing. Xiaoye is an adult now; he can consider his own relationship matters. As parents, we surely don’t want our child to be deceived, so bring your girlfriend home next Saturday, and we’ll meet her.”

Chi Mu smiled and chimed in, “Yes, bring your girlfriend home next Saturday; we can check her out. You should trust your mom’s judgment.”

Chi Ye felt embarrassed. He just wanted to share the joy of finding a girlfriend with his family; why did it turn into needing to bring her home?

How should he tell Yuxin? He just hoped Yuxin wouldn’t shut him down completely!
